As before with Aldi you have to ask a member of staff to do the discount if using self service the button on till doesn’t do it. Our local asks that you keep any discounted items to end for them to do together.

That's the real problem:  people (including these forumites) defend these terrible business practises.  I wonder who they work for?

    Oh no!
    Not that old chestnut again...
There's not enough hours in the day for me to work for all the companies I've been accused of working for.

    Re Aldi reduced items:
I use the self service check outs and always keep my reduced items until the end and then ask a staff member to apply any discounts.
    It's really not that hard.

As for checking receipts - I've always done that.

“Also Aldis do not automatically give you a receipt so they hope you do not even realize you've been ripped off.”

Most supermarkets no longer automatically give you a receipt. But the option is always there to request one.

Yes, errors and misprices happen. That can be checked by keeping an eye on the prices shown when the items are scanned.

Do I think it’s a conspiracy by supermarkets to “scam” customers? No
Do I work for a supermarket? Also no.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

But you would say that if you were part of your supermarket's conspiracy, wouldn't you?  :D

Anyway, I've never encountered these sorts of issues. If you want to avoid forgetting to use your Tesco Clubcard, use the scan as you shop option which is linked to your Clubcard automatically.

Tesco rarely overcharge you however if you forgot to use your clubcard at the till you can be overcharged by a lot!  The worst time I was down £18 from a £48 shop!

Lidls also use a system where a scan of their rewards program saves you money on certain products so if you forgot to use the rewards barcode you will be paying more than you should.

Do you really consider that you are being scammed in the above examples?

    You're not being scammed.
    It's simply user error.
  • At till checkouts the cashiers nowadays always ask if you want a receipt.  Why would people not want a receipt to double check.  I always check the receipt and regularly find something that has been overpriced.  Once in Lidl was charged £6 for a net of 3 onions!

Because some people don't, quite simple. Do you ask for one if you buy 2 items?

And what are you checking the receiot against? Do you happen to know the price of everything in any given supermarket?

I certainly do not know the price of each individual item in my shopping n g trolley of twenty or thirty items.  I do check that specific discounts for multiple buys etc are shown. Can I can’t watch his much is being scanned as I am busy packing my shopping.   Tills are programmed by head office and check out.  Staff have no control  over what is charged.
