Getting ripped off at Supermarkets

Morrisons is by far the worst. Check your receipts everyone. Morrisons overcharge me at nearly every visit. And even telling the cashier of being overcharged (if you get a cashier to scan your products) means that you have to go into a separate queue to even ask for your discount to pay the advertised price! They don't even want to give you your money back but to have it as More Points on their rewards program. It happens so often I have the manager's email address now and I plan on emailing every time I shop now where I am scammed. Their receipts are shocking to understand as the discounts can come off in three different places on the receipt. You need to spend 20 minutes to even balance the receipt. It's an utter disgrace.
Aldis scam you by claiming that the item has 50% off (with a red sticker) when the product in fact scans at full price. Also Aldis do not automatically give you a receipt so they hope you do not even realize you've been ripped off. It took me 6 visits to realise this so I'm probably around £10 down over 2 months. Because the amounts are relatively small they depend on you not complaining. How can this be legal?
Tesco rarely overcharge you however if you forgot to use your clubcard at the till you can be overcharged by a lot! The worst time I was down £18 from a £48 shop!
Lidls also use a system where a scan of their rewards program saves you money on certain products so if you forgot to use the rewards barcode you will be paying more than you should.
Asda also have overcharged me as well over the last 2 months. At least their self serve tills scan the final price so you know if your being scammed.
I wonder how much these supermarkets are ripping us off by annually. I reckon by tens of millions of pounds and I'm shocked there isn't more people talking about this.
If I write to Trading Standards will they even do anything?

You forgetting to use your Clubcard or barcode isn't being "ripped off" by supermarkets.
Nothing to which you have referred warrants TS being involvedIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales4 -

That's the real problem: people (including these forumites) defend these terrible business practises. I wonder who they work for?0

I don't have similar extreme experiences, but I broadly agree with your point. When I have time, I watch the till carefully, and call an assistant over before I make payment, so as i don't have to chase a refund. But its easy for me these days, and its certainly not something everyone can do at the time.0

I went to Asda in Hull yesterday, 3 of the items I was looking at were mispriced by at least 15%. It is actually a very serious offence and supermarkets can and do get fined thousands for this.1

When shopping in supermarkets I always get a receipt and I always check it. If there's a discrepancy I point it out and get it corrected.
I find a discrepancy perhaps one time in 100 or 200 visits.
Not a problem.0 -

You always have the option of not using these supermarkets?1

It does say in Aldi for reduced stuff you scan it first. You then have to get the staff to add the discount.Come on you Irons0

(Whilst noting not been there since Easter so might have changed) To be fair to OP the way the Morrisons more card discount is displayed on the receipt isn’t clear, they just lump it all together and show it as a one figure discount at the bottom so it’s very hard to tell if all items advertised as a more card price actually went through as one.
Our local Morrisons are also pretty bad at displaying prices for everything, especially the toy section which is always a total mess.In the past have found a whole shelf of refrigerated soups passed their use by and some bread that was 5 weeks passed it’s best before. For such a big company it does seem very disorganised.
Our local Coop has members prices, you use self checkout, scan milk and the summary on the screen shows £1.85, member price £1.65, great. Scan a bag of crisps and it just shows £1.89 and the member price then adjusts when you hit pay. Lack of consistency doesn’t fill you with much confidence really.ASDA home delivery are pretty annoying with their substitutions, last delivery bag of salad half the size same price so basically double, same with a bag of chips and of course fish fingers substituted with their basic range because they don’t want to give you Birds Eye (yes I know fish fingers and chips is rubbish food but it’s summer holidays and easy when other kids come over for lunch). In terms of don’t shop there the more rural you go the harder it seems to find local shops, any convenience stores seem to be Spar or similar selling a very limited range of the same stuff just at a very high price (Coop are bad enough, “prices you’ll love” who ever said that about Coop?).In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
