Marleysmummy99 said:I need some advice please. We moved a week ago and have made the biggest mistake, and I'm so incredibly upset. When meeting my new neighbour yesterday, she made me aware that in or around 2023 the property we just purchased was a cannabis farm. Neither the seller or the estate agent told us. The estate agents were aware as they were the ones that were letting it out at the time and then sold it to us. I'm very upset about this, I live in this house with my family including our 2 year old child.I contacted the local police yesterday but was told they can't give me any info due to GDPR. I've submitted a freedom of information request but it'll likely not succeed.I need evidence of the crime and that this house was a cannabis factory in order to take legal action against the seller and agent. I wouldn't have purchased this house if I had known.
National Grid confirm the meter was changed and a new supply put in Nov 2023, after supply was disconnected.Difficulty is that the previous owners live in South Africa. I'm so upset by this. I don't know what else to do.
I'm not an expert but can you contact your conveyancing solicitor?
I know the previous owner has to complete a questionnaire about the house with honest answers . I'm not quite sure of all the questions though.
Hope you get it sorted . Good luck0 -
Marleysmummy99 said:I've previously asked a question about my house previously being a cannabis factory. I got some very helpful responses, thank you everyone.
I was worried thst the growers had caused damage as since living here for 2 weeks we've noticed a lot that we hadn't seen on the few short viewings. The door frame upstairs on the bathroom and back bedroom slope to the back corner of the house, where the back bedroom is. There are cracks above the back bedroom door frame in the same place on each side. Above the bathroom door the same, hairline cracks on each side. As these cracks are in the same place each side it looks like they have gone all the way through.
Underneath this room is the kitchen and pantry. The pantry is off the kitchen and has a sloping door frame too and the kitchen floor has a big dip in.
The surveyor said the property had no subsidence but now I'm worried. I complained and the surveyor is coming back tomorrow, same surveyor from a large firm in the midlands.
If we have subsidence what are my options in relation to the surveyor? I am so worried the house has subsidence.
House was built in 1950 approx. It has a 4 bed detached.
Any insurance company is likley to put pins either side of the cracks and measure how far they move for the next year or so
