Teacher's Pensions Transitional Protection Payment

Hello, I was just wondering if there was anyone here who has retired from teaching and have received their transitional protection payment. I returned my form nearly 6 months ago and have contacted TP asking if they were still on track to make the payments within the 6 month window they had allowed themselves. I have sent them two messages to ask this, they have not replied to either which is making me very nervous. Hoping someone has had a positive experience.

  • I have been fully retired for two years after a phased retirement and some additional service pension. I have been told I am affected by the changes but no indication of how and by how much. I have emailed several times and always received a standard response. They tell me I may have to wait until October this year to see a statement let alone any adjustments!
  • I started drawing my retirement pension over two years ago, I am eligible for transitional protection, but have not been given it.  When I ask why not, I wait for ten working days, and am then fobbed off with a meaningless standard reply. I have now complained to Teachers Pension; their response has been:  silence.  Under these circumstances, I too am naturally concerned that something is amiss, so if anyone HAS got their transitional protection money I would be interested to know!
  • The above link was posted on Last Updated: 24/09/2025  at 12:34.  We are now  in 2025 with no further information. I am in the same position as above,  and believe this is a very unfair flawed process.  I too have been fobbed off when I can actually get through to someone - the reply is there is nothing they can do as they have no phone number for the department dealing with it, nor do they have an email apart from an admin one.  Totally unacceptable.  I suspect making a bigger noise will be the only way forward which to be frank is not a route I want to go down but dont think I have a choice.
  • I am in the same position. It's coming up to nearly a year since I was notified of the transitional change and am due another significant payment to my capital lump sum. It would simply be courteous to let us know as to when we can expect payment. I have complained to TP; despite the response being due in 15 days from the date of my complaint, I waited six months before I eventually heard from them with the usual standard reply of they are unable to give a date of when the payment will be processed. I am beginning to doubt this payment will ever be processed! Does anyone know who is the Minister responsible for this as I am now going to write to them. Also, does anyone know of any teacher who has been paid the new transitional payment?

So, further to my posting yesterday, I wrote to Torsten Bell, Minister for Pensions, and remarkably today received a response asking for my teacher reference number. It appears that they have a department to look into this so here is the email I am now corresponding with (a [Name removed by Forum Team] is the person I am dealing with) should anyone else now want to chase their payment and the timing:

    hi

Having exactly the same issues with TPS/ RSS. Asked my local MP to intervene and they have ignored them also. Totally unacceptable, I can see why there have been posts on ‘schoolsweek’ regarding this issue and why it has been compared to the post office scandal.

    hi all

in answer to the question of / how many colleagues have received their RSS as of 30 June 25 there were 2 ( yes that’s 2 ) according to schoolsweek.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any further updates. Couple of links below make interesting reads, hopefully they open on.
