It was 100% relevant to pensions and retirement.

So the most significant political event in our lifetimes to affect our pensions and how to discuss getting help, thoughts and advice from our peers on its ramifications and ways to mitigate against it or just to get reassurance is off limits. What is the world coming to.😕

Republican moderators?
The next time 'Rachel from accounts' is quoted I'll be the first on the report button.
I guess the purpose of the board is pensions and there are much better forums to discuss worldwide financial events.
I personally think locking a thread is a better action of a moderator, as opposed to just deleting it.4 -
Agreed that the Trump Tariffs are very consequential to DC pension investments and that any conversation about economics is almost by default also a political conversation. I'm miffed that the thread is gone as I was just about to point out that China owns an awful lot of US debt in the form of T-Bills. What happens if China starts to unwind it's US debt position? I now expect this to disappearAnd so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.3

I’m on the cusp of retirement, this event has been as just about the most consequential thing that could happen. Just reading other financial/retirement minded folks discussing and trying to come to terms with what to do next is about as important as a forum could be."All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest”3

political risk, reputational risk, financial risk, operational risk - we can't sweep one under the carpet. That said we all play by the rules here.0

Hi all,
While we can't publicly discuss individual specific moderation decisions, speaking generally we appreciate that national and global political events have a direct and palpable affect on MoneySaving. However, the purpose of the Forum is to be a useful MoneySaving resource for our users.
If the primary focus of a thread or post is on personal impact and what actions users are taking/recommending, then that is fine. However, wider discussion about the politics of the situation doesn't fall under that remit. At best it isn't useful for Forumites, and at worst it leads to heated arguments that invariably descend into abusive conduct - something that then takes up the Forum Team's resources to deal with.
We typically try to remove individual posts if it looks like a thread can be nudged back on track. However, in situations where it can't, we usually (and regretfully) remove the thread rather than close/lock it. This is to prevent boards from being clogged up with closed off-topic threads and makes it clearer to users that such content is not in line with the Forum's expectations and rules.
As someone else touched on in the thread previously, the internet is not short of places for people to discuss politics, but the Forum is a place for users to get/share support and experiences.7 -
Trouble is with Trump & Co they aren't playing by Queensberry Rules. Putting aside the reality show that fills the airwaves constantly. The full impact is going to take some months to be known. There's no model to predict how many decades of inter related cross border activity are going to unwind. Markets are merely the visible prt of the iceberg. The damage will be caused by what lies beneath the water.2
