If you pay for a Spotify 'Individual', 'Duo' or 'Family' subscription and don't mind giving up audiobooks, you can now save up to £24 a year by switching to one of its new 'Basic' plans. These don't have audiobooks but cost £1 to £2 a month less and let you keep all your other benefits, such as ad-free listening, downloads and high-quality audio – though only existing subscribers can access them for now.

I'm currently on the Premium Duo membership. If I downgrade to Basic Duo, will I still have access to ad-free podcasts?

I don't care about audiobooks, but do listen to podcasts.

    Hi @jbrassy,

Spotify doesn't actually promise ad-free podcasts on its Premium plan, only ad-free music - if you search Spotify's Community forum, there are lots of reports of people with Premium hearing ads during podcasts.

Basic doesn't change this - so there shouldn't be any difference.

    Thanks,
    Petar

I have tried to downgrade a few times over the past month but it doesn’t show any of Basic plans as an option. It’s only showing the more expensive premium options or the free one.

Have they removed the basic options just a quickly and quietly as they introduced them?

    Hi SHARRA001,

We asked Spotify about this and it told us "No changes have been made regarding Spotify Basic’s availability for existing customers" since we published our story.

If you're still struggling to access the Basic plan, it may be worth contacting Spotify directly.

    Thanks,
    MSE Petar
