  • ;) Hi,
I'm kinda new to bankruptcy, and was just wondering how much is a reasonable amount to claim for food, fuel etc. I understand it's to do with Attatchements of earnings, and Payment of judgements figures, but I was wondering what the thresholds were for these figures. My point is I can (and have) survived on eating rice with food outgoings of £15.00 per week, but I'm not sure I want to.
Is there a link to the full figures, so I can work out what I'm entitled to?
  • You can use this as a guide but depending on your OR they can be a bit more generous in some areas

Its one of the reasons I have accepted a part time job as opposed to a full time job (which starts mid Jan) and will only look to go full time once discharged. In this way I will avoid an IPA and be much better off as a result (over the 36 month period that a IPA would run for once imposed - in my case to the tune of about 10K).

Since the main purpose of this board is for people to get advice about their debts and possible bankrupcy without judgements from other posters, I will be careful how I pose this question:

If you had the option of a full time job which would give you the chance to pay back some of the money you borrowed and (presumably) enjoyed spending, why would you not take it?

That 10K you look forward to saving yourself may help someone else out of a hole that you helped put them in.

I am interested because I know someone who committed suicide after a customer of his ran up a huge bill with him, then went bankrupt and left him with bills of his own that he couldn't pay.

Since I really don't understand the subject much I suppose I should keep my opinions to myself, but it just doesn't seem right to me to actually choose not to work so that you don't have to pay anything back.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Apart from this site of course, CCCS can go through your figures with you too. Post what you have now (on a new thread) and plenty of people on here will let you know from their own experience what you can put down and how much.

Well, I thought that this was a reasonable question and sensitively worded. Are these sort of discussions always censored so heavily?

I agree, though these sort of discussions tend to get inflammatary and frought and probably belong elsewhere.....this board is to help people going BR not to decide on the whys and wherefores of BR. For every poor person thats suffered at the hands of someone going BR theres also people commiting suicide because they've got themselves so deeply in debt and can't get out of it.
But, as i said, here is not really the place for that to be discussed.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Well you would being the saint you are.

I wonder what your reaction would be in the real world if you always had people passing there opinion and criticising you when they knew nothing about you or the situation they are commenting on yet still jumped to conclusions about you?

I doubt you would be spouting free speech and all that then
