I thought I'd share an update on a thrifty project I've undertaken recently. I received two MultoY0rk chairs via Fr33cycle back in 2008 - they had tatty loose covers originally which I dyed and used throws to be able to use them. They've done a great job and I never had enough money to get new covers made.
I found a massive pair of lined curtains for sale in a charity shop for £12 and thought "hmmmm... I wonder....". Once home I threw one of the curtains over the chair and tucked it in to see if I could live with the colours. I then stripped the loose cover from the chair and broke it down into its component parts and made a brown paper pattern.
I then spent a few hours sewing the curtain into a replacement cover for the chair. Here is the result - I still need to stitch velcro to the underside of the bottom of the cover so that they can be securely gripped underneath the chair to hold the cover in place. It definitely doesn't stand up to close scrutiny but I think it's an "ok" job.
Please excuse the detritus in the backgroundI will dye the second curtain and use it to make a set of curtains for my bedroom. The lining from the first curtain has been used to make two innards for crocheted bags my sister has made.
I don't think it's a bad outcome from a £12 investment and a bit of time - I thought I'd share as I'm a bit giddy about it

Wow, well done @Working_Mum 👏 That was very clever and thrifty of you. The chair looks lovely and fresh now!6

Make Do 1:
When I meal plan for the week, I try to use up "bits" first and yesterday I made 8 fishcakes to use up half a tin of pink salmon, padded out with a small piece of red pepper and some chickpeas. Once it was all suitably mixed up I added it to mashed potato, formed the shapes with my hands and rolled in breadcrumbs. Two for tea last night and 6 for the freezer.
Make Do 2: Half a carton of LL milk used for a SC rice pudding, afters sorted for a few days.
Minimise:
Today I've assembled a new shoe rack and have disposed of the old rickety one that really was beyond repair. I've also turfed out another pair of shoes for the CS bag.
Mend: The modesty panels are still in the making - a bit more tricky than I thought! - but I'll get there. My winter coat has several loose buttons so my next job is to sew them back on more firmly. I may as well do them all at the same time.Be kind to others and to yourself too.10
