job going down hill

Options
hi hope someone may be able to help .
firstly i have two jobs this post concerns the second job.
stated this job the end of November if i remember correctly I had a probation period of 3/4 months.
everything was fine I was employed as supervisor, from the beginning, unfortunately the lady i worked with subsequently passed away unexpectedly . the site is a massive site to cover and having two jobs didn't always make it possible to do full cleans everywere but basics were done.
I must point out to get into this site  there is gate security with cctv  that's logging you time in and out  you go into the hut to sign keys out and sign in.
since January staff have been hard to employ it seems however a month ago the firm employed two men [not a problem] I should point out i`m very easy going providing the job is done .
however one person left after  couple of months maybe less` he was always phoning the other guy i`m assuming moaning about me he didn't like being asked to do stuff etc, however the guy I had a bad feeling about he had been a manger for nhs which says it all i`m guessing was emailing the boss again back stabbing [what ever you call it]
constantly it appears telling tails, [nothing new] he said my cleaning was sub standard hummm short fat man syndrome  obviously  so the job has now gone down hill that fast its untrue, I had a conversation with my manager   that appeared to suggest this guy would be better at the job than me so eventually because of circumstances i said just make him supervisor , i will carry on cleaning , that's were its all gone wrong .
he has the manager wrapped around his little finger
I should point out  the start time is 6 oclock  I used to start at 4.30 the manager has stated its not a problem and the one area that's dirty  all the time makes sense to clean when there shift isn't around!
however the man with the problem now in charge [biggest mistake in my life] has now demanded that I start at 5.30am i`m not allowed any keys ! I can only sign at 5.30 and await his arrival. he has also demanded I take holidays.
the manager appears spinless and seems happy to allow it to carry on!
he also now has insisted on the ladies contact number in the security office think she starts at 6 am.
the little man also said on a couple of occasions that the manger when he comes is checking times  in and out no problem sometimes i put 4.30am and its its 4,40 I have never booked time in that i haven't done. [ also been there way over my time and never booked it ] although the manager did say please put the correct time in, no problem . this guy is clearly taking over big style
its also been mentioned to me to ask who as been viewing the cctv, under the freedom of information act i can request it . I suspect its him and the manager, is this allowed?
should I request a copy of my signing in and out since January?  check against my pay? [i had issues with obtaining wage slips had to read the riot act via employment law to get it sorted ]
he definitely seems to want me out the door  by any means possible. is this legal?
apologies for long post   any advise or thoughts  [yes there is two sides to every story]
any help would be great

  • I read the title of this thread and initially assumed that you were a ski-instructor, but it appears I was wrong..........
  • You are correct in that there is always 2 sides to a story.

From what I can interpret, you were supervisor, you had flexibility to do your role and you feel you have done the best job you could given the challenges of the site and people employed to cover the site.

However, you seem to have given up your rights because someone has come in and cause you a bit of stress. You don't factually know what has gone on but seem to have a story in your head about what you think has gone on. It seems as though as a result you have just asked to forget the supervisor responsibilities and just clean.

Now someone has come in and taken over those responsibilities, you are realising that they want to give you less flexibility and are actually trying to ensure that you are logging your times correctly.

If that is correct, my suggestion to you is probably to find another job as all I can take from your post is that this is a clash of personality and style rather than any wrongdoing within your terms of employment.

If you have only been working there a few months they are well within their rights to tell you that your employment has ended.  They don't need to give any reasons, just whatever notice is outlined in your employment contract or the companies T&Cs.

Given that it sounds like they aren't happy with you I agree with the other poster and would suggest you look for work elsewhere.

Unless both jobs are with the same employer and they are not managing your time between the two correctly, the fact that you have a second job isn't really a reason for not doing one of them properly.
  • Nothing really the manager stated he had complaints (he isn't on site)
The person they took on clearly wanted the job from the beginning.
Regarding my I didn't make it clear if I wrote down 4.30 am and it was 4.40 I left at 9.30 I only ever booked half hour over . At times never booked any .
The control man they have set on is just that a control pain , but of cause I can go in at 5.30 still leave 9.30 that's my hours done, he is a horrid man causing trouble emailing the manager etc. The security guys have said same

If he is emailing your manager because you’re not doing what you’re meant to be doing, or there is a query over the hours you are logging/working then he’s just doing his job surely?

What security think is neither here nor there.

With regards to the holidays, employers do have the right to tell you when to take your holidays with enough notice. Although that may not make the good working relations.

With the CCTV, perhaps whoever mentioned it to you could tell you has been looking at it, but I see no problem at all with the manager checking the CCTV to see what their employees are doing.

It does seem as if moving on is going to be your best option, because the derogatory way you talk about the supervisor seems to imply that you’re not going to be able to have any sort of sensible working relationship. If you are letting that show, then that will just make things worse.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Honestly.....

You have been employed for less than six months, so are still 18 months short of acquiring any security of employment. Who is right and wrong is almost irrelevant and even you admit there are two sides to every story.

Do you see any realistic chance of this changing to a happy, or at least tolerable, employment situation?

As other have said, frankly I would move on before it ends in tears!
