Part Time PAYE role

13 Posts

I'm currently self-employed however I am interviewing for a part time PAYE role which would be three days a week. I will continue to freelance for the other two days.
Can anyone advise on which three days would be best to work? I like the idea of having Friday as a 'freelance day' for spontaneous weekends away without needing to request holiday from my employer but other than that I'm not sure what is best. I was originally considering Mon/Tues/Wed but I read Monday might not be the best day due to pro-rata bank holidays but I can't get my head around how it works!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

What days are your employers operating?
For me my freelance work rarely pays on weekends or bankholidays so it make sense to align the PAYE work to those and whilst it may only be pro-rata pay its still some pay rather than none plus if they are open you may be able to pickup overtime or such on those days.
Bank holidays are just part of the entitlement (assuming the job doesn't normally require bank holidays to be working).
So the disadvantage with having Mondays as part of your normal week is that every bank holiday which falls on a Monday (most of them) will be deducted from your entitlement. So you get more flexibility if you don't normally work on Mondays because those Monday bank holidays are not worked by you but neither do they get deducted from your holiday entitlement.
It is perfect and I would recommend it.
