I really interested in walking and counting my steps like Martin does, and would love to know what tracker he uses. Can you assist me at all with this? Would love to get his recomendation. Thank you.0

This is very impressive. I was told to vary it, so I also swim, jog, bike and play badminton (as well as walk the dog).Do you go on Park Runs? They have many walkers who take part, and it's a great non-competitive (unless you really want to) event.0

It is impressive but I've always been interested in the practicality of doing it. Especially when on the phone or a meeting. What happens when you want to make a note of something you need to do, or a thought comes into your mind, or a caller needs to tell you something very specific? My vet called today with details of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis for my cat and I needed to write things down. I'm not going to ask him to message or email me with those details. Work could be a bit easier, you could ask people to email stuff but even so, if a thought comes into my mind I'm not going to ask the person on the other end to make a note of it for me. My granddaughter has just rung and in passing mentioned her exams, I quickly noted when they are so I could send her a good luck message on the day. Do you just stop and make a note or...???
The other thing is it's very distracting when someone is walking along a road and I can hear road noise, voices, pedestrian crossings and everything else that goes on on the other end - as well as a fluctuating signal. I feel the walker isn't really concentrating on what I'm saying as they have these other distractions, in fact I often say ring me later when you get in - it feels rude.
I'd genuinely love to know how Martin manages these practical issues.0 -

I can definitely relate - I started out 3 years ago aiming to run 1000k in a calendar year but then that turned into a blend of walking and running so 1000k has been passed each year for the last 3. I use MapMyRun to track - from spring to autumn I try to get out early morning for an hour and feel set up for the day and have enjoyed many beautiful mornings. Now it’s winter I try to ensure I get out for an hour in the middle of the day and often join non client calls whilst walking. It does feel a bit of an obsession/compulsion especially as I can relate to finding excuses to walk to meetings/events.0

I'd also be concerned about confidentiality and privacy issues. When I used to commute by train it always amazed and disturbed me how many people would conduct deeply personal or commercially-sensitive conversations that were audible to eveyone else in the carriage. Not to mention those who happily read our their credit / debit card numbers, expiry dates and CVC number when purchasing something via phone!

I have my phone in my back pocket from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed. I am counting every single step. I also sign up for virtual challenges and so far I have done Lands End to John O’Groats and back, the South West Coast Path, various marathons and rainbow runs. The virtual challenges, you are given 12 months but I do them in 4-5. Once I start I can’t stop.0
