'Class 2 National Insurance Reference Number' to Pay Voluntary Contributions?

So now that I've decided to pay all my shortfall years, it seems I need this number in order to do so -- but HMRC didn't provide it in their letter telling me I'm eligible for Class 2 contributions, and detailing how much I need to pay for each year. When I try to sign in to the payment portal, it says: 'This is 18 digits, like 113330017829614133. You'll find it on the payslip or the payment request sent to you by HMRC.'
Any clues?

If you do not have an 18-digit reference number you can get help from the National Insurance Helpline.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
This just nudged me into making my 2021/22 NI contribution. The benefit of being overseas is that your reference number is just your NI number plus "IC" and your surname and initial...I say just, but the resulting string can get pretty long. Anyway as I have the HMRC account info saved on my online bank account, paying them by wire transfer is trivial.“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”1

That comes up to 19 digits for me, and they specify 18. Guess I should phone them....

@bostonerimus - I'm trying to pay with the 18-digit number (I called and the confirmed what you said - NI #, IC, surname, first initial) - but it won't accept it. I keep getting this message:I've tried many times now ensuring that I entered it correctly. So now I'm suddenly wondering if I'm even supposed to go through the HMRC portal, or do I just initiate the payment from my bank's website? I'm abroad and don't fancy staying up until 2am to phone them yet again...!0
