MSE Rhiannon has a new blog out. In her own words:
"No matter what you think of veganism, January is a great time of year to take advantage of Veganuary deals simply by choosing a plant-based option in restaurants or the supermarket. These are some of my hand-picked offers for Veganuary 2022."

I wouldn't eat vegan plant based products if you paid me. Bald Foodie Guy sampled some on his You Tube page and he spat them out.Someone please tell me what money is1

Much of this vegan/vegetarian stuff is highly processed, calorific, "test tube" food - and more importantly quite unappetizing. Can only eat it in small quantities, and makes me feel sick usually.2

I have a daughter who is vegetarian (not quite vegan, she still eats cheese) and find that the processed foods - particularly some quorn products and richmond meat free sausages and beyond meat burgers - make it a lot easier to cook meals for the whole family rather than having to cook 2 dishes every day.

You must have a very strange diet with absolutely nothing vegan in it.5 -
There are so many different Vegan and Vegetarian products available these days that I find it difficult to believe that anyone could justifiably find them all unpalatable.
I definitely want to try the McPlant before it goes.
Bald Foodie Guy has finally found a vegan product that he likes - the Aldi "No Chicken" burgers.2 -
Why are meat eaters so quick to jump on these threads and put everyone down? You do what you do and we'll do our thing.
Since giving up meat last year and using quorn products and the like, I've not missed meat at all. Its actually easier to cook with some products like meat free mince and you don't have to mess around frying it off and draining off the nasty fat.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.7 -

My take on it is vegan is promoted as healthy, better for the planet and it's made from plants (so less animal farts in the atmosphere). But my career in food has taught me different.
Healthy
Anything man made that's been through a process is usually bad for you in some way form or other, the ingredients for example are made from concentrated whatever, which has been the a process to be concentrated. In a nutshell another western diet that'll start rearing health issues in 30 year's time.
Better for the planetI personally don't see how it's better for the environment, it's been through a process in a factory where X amount of people turn up for work in their cars, make a plant based product on a conveyor line by people handling your potential food wearing single use plastic or latex gloves. Spooned into plastic containers, sealed with a plastic lid then have cardboard type plastic encased over it showing you a picture of the product with the cooking instructions + none of which are recyclable, then driven across the country by at least 2 HGV's before it hits the shelf and you buy (if not it'll get heavily reduced and moved on to a food bank)...... Personally I'm not sure I believe it is better for the planet, or for you for that matter.
Want to eat plants.... eat vegetables, fruits nuts and other products that grow naturally.
Want to eat healthy... have the above with fish and meat that have been through little to no processing as possible.
Want to be better for the planet... Eat less meat (less farts) and stop buying processed food in crappy packagings.
As for other companies jumping on board because they fit the criteria of "vegan" good for you... Although you probably already was vegen we just hadn't created a term for it yet.
Whilst I'm ranting dont get me starting on super foods. All a form of misdirection.6 -
I mean, Coffeekup is absolutely correct, the term vegan has only been around since 1944. I remember back in 1943 when you could buy a simple falafel burger without it having 'vegan' all over the packaging. Bandwagon jumpers, the lot of them.
