Getting things sorted before I'm a gran!

Options
Well when I started my first diary I was determined to be debt free by the time I was 40. A month to go and that isn't anywhere near happening. So maybe 40 can be the start of something good.

I ladt posted on my diary back in May and although the minimum payments have been paid I haven't kept track and I know the CC's are now charging interest.

I struggle massively with my mental health and we all seem to be hoarders but we are due our first grandchild in March and would like to be heading to a better place by then with my health and the debt.

Copied the numbers from May (original debt was £33554!) I'll try to get up to date numbers tomorrow.

Bcard £5316.57
Mcard £1805
Cfinance £0!!! DONE!
M2card £9971.62

Congratulations on your first grandchild, how exciting for you.

I hope you manage to get those figures down quite a bit.  You have something to aim for so if you can just go for it.  I'll be cheering you on.

  • Thank you edwink, apparently I'll be on babysitting duties once D1 goes back to work so need to be in top form by the end of the year. It was a huge shock but we're all so excited now x

How lovely for you all. I'm sure if you put your mind to it you will soon get your finances in order.  Something to aim for is always good I think.

    Best of luck x

  • Okay so I've just had a look and bcard is at £4305.15 and £65 is interest this month. I've just tried to transfer it but DH has the code and he's at work. The Mcard is currently £9199.09. I've transferred as much as I can to Mcard for a 3% fee but 0% interest for 2 years. Will do the rest once I've moved the balance that's already on Mcard to bcard. The min payment for that this month is £265 with £173 of that interest!

So Total at the moment is £13504.34 plus the transfer fees. I'm sure there's some small amounts on catalogues too.

  • That means even though it seemed to be a rubbish year of paying off I've still managed almost £5000 off.

  • Just having a cup of tea and had a look at a couple of accounts. I have £58 left on next which will be paid next week and £130 on laybuy which will be paid by the end of January (this has become to easy when I can't be bothered to go fetch my bank card). Other than our phones that is everything.

Can't believe it is 2022 tomorrow! This year seems to have gone way to fast.

  • Happy new year !
Stay focused and in time the debts will be manageable and eventually disappear ..
  • Thank you AC. Just spotted you have a new diary for the new year too. Will pop over and say hi soon.

I've just put in this month's gas and electric readings £200 (minus a few pennies) for December! Can't wait for the sun to return but dread to think how much it will be next winter.

I've done the other balance transfer when DH got up so most of the balance should now be on 0% for 2 years and hopefully be able to move the rest next week.

    Final totals for 2021 are:
    Mcard £4305.15
    Bcard £9199.09
BT fees £500 (may be less, forgot to write it down)
    Next £58
    Laybuy £130

Total at the end of 2021/start of 2022 is: £14192.24

  • Spent today packing away the Christmas things. Sister fetched a bunk bed we (well DH, I supervised) had dismantled the other day and sorted through the pets cupboard after looking for something and realising something had exploded over everything and a lot of things had gone funny.

    NSD1 of 2022!
