Costa Coffee loyalty account holders will be moved onto a new membership scheme from 29 September. Under the revised loyalty offering you'll earn 'beans' instead of points and you can earn freebies more quickly, although you won't be able to redeem rewards on any anything other than drinks.

There's an error in the article - it says you can't collect points from Costa Express machines under the current scheme, but in fact you can. You can order through the app and get the points automatically, or if you order on the machine screen you can scan a QR code while your drink is being made.

Both the old and new schemes are the same in this respect - you can earn points/beans at both Costa Express machines and in the coffee shops, but only spend them in the coffee shops.

Hi everyone, 

Since publishing the article we have had an update from Costa which clarified that 29 September is when the scheme launches for new joiners only. Existing customers will instead be rolled onto the new scheme over the course of September, so if you want to use any points on food, it's best to do so sooner rather than later. This has now been updated in the article.
