They changed several times each year so it must have been a variable rate.Reed0 -
OP, as a few other posters have alluded to, we can discuss and suggest all we want, but much of it is academic until you can provide and understand some meter readings.
You have readings from when you moved in (which you didn’t take yourself, but it’s all you have now)
- What are the meter readings today? (or arrange to get them ASAP)
- What were the last meter readings given to EON and when was this?
- What are the meter readings on your bill? You’ve only provided the summary page with charges, but there should be another page with meter readings. Would help if you could post that.Only when there’s some data on the meter readings (your usage) can people work out if there’s been some massive error, or whether the use is accurate and the debt correct.0 -
You’re gonna have a load of tough lessons to learn after this experience.
I don’t understand how you could have lived 3 years in a property without checking the meter once. You can’t just assume you have a smart meter. You’ve been billed throughout so should have checked the bills were calculated from actual and not estimated readings.
saying that you need caretaker access for the meter is not a good enough excuse for not reading the meter. You also seem to be on a ridiculously expensive tariff that hasn’t helped.
also, I don’t understand how you think paying between 7 and 20 quid a month for an all electric flat would cover your bills. Not in a million years, regardless of whether your flat is empty a few months a year (assuming you turned off all electricity during that time)
you urgently need to do the things other posters have mentioned
1. Look at the meters yourself, insist on it. Check the readings are for the meters that are on your bill. Check the serial numbers.
2. Get the latest accurate meter reads
3. Get saving, you will have to pay a considerable amount. You may be able to negotiate your way into paying less, but it will still be a hefty amount.
if you want us to help we need to know when the last ACTUAL reading was from your meter on the bills, whether you provided any meter readings during your tenancy, total amount paid to company during this time.0 -
Nobody has so far mentioned that the caretaker may be reading the day and night registers incorrectly. So it may be possible that you have been paying the super expensive day rate for your storage heaters and immersion heater. Which also begs the question whether your immersion heater has been on 24/7. There will probably be a boost switch. Check that it is switched off.
