Unknown CCJ's

Hi
I wonder if any of you can help me.....
I left my Husband and the marital home approx 9 years ago.  My ex husband kept the house on and all associated bills.  I have just gone to rent my own property and have found out that I now have 4 CCJs (2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018) registered against my name at the marital home.  Is there anyway I can get these removed as I was not living there and wouldn't be liable for the debt and he never passed on any letters as the ones I needed I informed them of my new address.  When I moved out I changed the Council Tax to a single occupancy for my ex so that would prove how long I haven't lived there, also my bank had my new address.
Any help advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Hi Matilda, I would suggest you contact the companies that hold the CCJs and ask for some more details. Are they companies you are familiar with? Did you have debts/ accounts with them?

  • Hi  :) I have only seen what is on my Clear Score account which only shows the date, amount and reference number.  It says a Court name of County Court Business Centre (no actual town)  Thanks
  • If these are proven to be household bills from my ex husband, will I be able to get them removed? Thanks

    Hi,
These are court judgements, and so you must go through a court process to challange them.
This is refered too as a "set aside", you apply to the court to have each judgement set aside, unfortunatly this is not a simple or cheap process, each set aside, and you need one application per CCJ, costs £255.00, you must have good reason why you did not respond to the court papers originally, plus you must have a defense against each claim.

So first you need to know what the debt was for, and who owns it, you can check your credit file, contact the court, and/or the creditor, or look at the register of judgements, but be warned, this is not a cheap or easy process.

If you gained the consent of each creditor, then a set aside by consent is only £100 per application, but again, the judge is not always guarenteed to ok it.

  • Thank you for your advice.. So first step is to find out who and what they are for and then to contact the Company and inform them of the situation etc.  Thank you for your help :-)  £225 each? wow apart from 1 they don't even cost that much to pay off! :-(  Rock and a hard place I think  :(
