Duchy, I was advised to do it like this:

If you have 8 rooms in your house (not including bathrooms, hall etc - just main rooms) and you use one of them for business, then allow 1/8 of your gas, electric, water, council tax, landline etc as a business cost.

If you use 2 rooms (and can justify this) then use 1/4 of your bills as a business cost, etc

So, I have 7 rooms, so I simply allocated 1/7 of my bills to the business.

    Hope that helps!

Afternoon all - I'm being very good and doing my accounts - DS just rang and he got on ok at his interview for lifeguarding job in Swansea. Not working tonight as ears and throat still hurt.

Ooh, good luck to DS for his interview.

Sorry to read that you are STILL not feeling well. Have you seen your GP or pharmacist about it - it seems to have been going on FOREVER!

Hi all. So glad to read of all the good luck all around - waiting eagerly for mine now.

Hypno, Duchy, sorry to put a dampener but Hypno's advice above only applies if you use the room EXCLUSIVELY for business - and don't even store anything personal in it. If (like me) you work in a room that at other times is used by the family, you need to divide costs again, using the proportion of time that you spend in that room.

It is well explained in this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=420104
