That's great news, I hope this possible new home works out, failing that I hope you find somewhere quickly.

I agree with the relief something for you to look forward to! I remember driving out of the town I had lived in towards my new home, I suddenly felt so free, so much lighter it was a lovely feeling.

The house rental sadly won't happen. She's locked into selling it- too much damage that she'd have to fix before she could rent it again (I made the offer of helping/doing a load of work myself but she showed me pictures and it is trashed, well above my skill level to fix.)

Ah well- daily rightmove checking continues!

So my energy company has changed my DD and put it up by £110 a month! (from £150 to £260) I'm in credit with them and have been for ages (not a great deal of credit because of higher costs but usually after I put my readings in at the end of the month there's £20-45 in my account before my next payment goes in.

So I've tried adjusting the DD back down but it won't allow me to put in a value of less than £257!) I'm thinking of cancelling the DD and then putting the £150 a month into a side pot and letting it build up for when they send a bill through- but I'm concerned; currently I'm getting the £66 from the government credited to my account and they are straight away transferring the money out to my bank (usually around the 7th) does anyone know what would happen if I cancelled my DD?

Are you with BG or someone else? I'd consider cancelling your DD. You don't have to pay with DD, and if your bill comes in quarterly like mine does then I don't see anything wrong with you paying the bill once it's issued to you.

You move over to the standard rate pay on invoice. I'm sure Martin said that was the most expensive way to pay even more than prepaymeters in terms of discount under the 'cap'.

My 66 is deducted from my bill before they claim the direct debit. My dd was due to go up from roughly 222 to 281, they've deducted 66 so are taking around 215 until March then it'll go up again. We do have 2 months credit though.
Maybe they've worked out paying customers the 66 direct doesn't build the intended credit to see you through winter so are trying to claim it back through direct debit but why not do 150 +66?

It might be worth calling them if you have time.

BG have good live chat, if that's easier.

I pay by DD but got my £66 paid direct to my bank. Although that was last month, haven't checked this month.

I'm with Ovo so I'm not sure how the discount would be applied if it was an issued bill. I certainly don't want it to get even more expensive!

I think I'll ring & ask if I can take the DD down to £216 as you suggested @bellevie

They all seem to be doing it differently which doesn't help at all.  It took a week for BG to pay the £66.  Which they say is 2 days for them to process after the DD & 5 days for it to get there.  I will be checking next Tuesday as they took my DD yesterday as usual.
