HMRC claiming I have underpaid in 19/20 by £1200 - I think I'm due a refund of approx £650!

Ok I just braved phoning them again in the hope I would get someone more helpful than the last time (as the last one was clearly having a bad day and was quite rude to be honest!).I explained the issue, and the advisor put me on hold to check the sums. She came back and said that by her maths I had overpaid by the amount I thought I had! All she can figure is that the uni was adding me as a new employee each time instead of a continuous one (which to be fair is accurate as it was a number of adhoc contracts) and that it had somehow affected the way my allowances were distributed. HMRC had then done some magical calculation and decided I had underpaid.Anyway, it is fixed. Cheque should be here in the next couple of weeks!Thank you all for taking the time to advise, it is much appreciated.2
