Thanks INOD
The guy from the garage phoned yesterday and the total for work on the car is £920I currently have £551 saved in the car fund with £300 budgeted to add on payday. The rest I can take from the holiday fund as I doubt we'll be doing much this year. The car is booked in for the middle of next month. Annoying as it completely wipes out the car fund but I suppose that's what it's there for and at least I won't go back into debt on the credit card
Me and OH went for a walk round the park after I finished work yesterday and stopped in past Lid! on the way home for a few bits - coffee, eggs, yoghurts, cold meat, bread, fruit and veg. Total spend was £15.47 so still have just over £25 left in the food budget for the month. Anything left over will be moved to the car fund. I need to top up the car with petrol today but again anything leftover from that budget will be moved to the car fund.
On a late shift today so once I finish my coffee, I'm going to jump in the shower and then go out for a wee walk. Only Thursday off this week as I've managed to pick up some much needed overtime on FridayMortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

ouch!
Still, way to go you! You have the money in, or soon to go in, a pot that was intended for just this purpose.
That credit card will have to sit and sulk as you no longer have to rely on it :-)
Though you could have lived without the bill, you have achieved what you set out to do and the car fund will build up again.

Thanks Boodedoo. I am a bit gutted that the bill will completely wipe out the car fund but as you say it will soon build up again.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

It's not great that it will wipe out the fund but its what you have saved it up for. Just imagine how you would feel if you didn't have that money saved up and had to put it on a card or something*Dad loan - £5300 - £7200

Thanks Sarahwithlove
Unfortunately the car saga continues - I was out doing community visits for work yesterday and the car started making a funny rattling noise. I took it up to the garage and one of the suspension coils had snapped. All the other suspension coils also need replaced so total cost will be £1307.92
They are going to do all the work on it today and tomorrow so need to pay it before payday. I have got £21.53 left in the petrol budget for this month so with that and what I have saved in the car, holiday, clothes/me and home funds plus £65.39 from the emergency fund, I can cover it but it means all of my savings pots apart from the emergency fund are wiped out. Very very far from ideal but I do feel good that I can cover it all from savings and not go into debt.
Spent £38.96 on petrol yesterday plus £2.70 on bus fare home from the garage. I also had a totally unnecessary food spend as with the heat and getting home late, I couldn't face making risotto for tea so popped to the local shop and got pizza, salad and ice creams (£6.50 spent). There's now £18.70 left in the food budget for the month which is totally doable with only 5 days left to go.
Day off today so plan is to get some gardening done and go for a run later.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

It's not ideal but this is the sort of thing your car pot and emergency fund are for. So try not to be too hard on yourself. Hopefully now that should be your car OK for a while so you can rebuild some of your other funds back up.*Dad loan - £5300 - £7200
