If you want to get out of the gym membership try going along and saying you've lost your job and you are moving to (somewhere very remote) to stay with your parents. I've got out of these things like that before. If you don't have success with one person there go along another day and give a different person the spiel, I'm pretty sure they can do it and they often don't want the grief of trying to chase the bad debt later so if you can persuade them you are going to be in arrears because you have no money to pay they might let you off.MFi3 member 105 - MFW date Oct 2023 - 12 years 9 months more0

Thanks for all your support.
The reson i'm in debt is because i was young with plenty of money and an over enthusiastic interest in parties, drink, drugs and ladies. I'm not ashamed of my past but i am ashamed of the financial burden i'm now left with.
I'm well aware of the situation i'm in, and what i need to do to rectify it, i've already quit hobbies by selling my golf clubs and all my photography equipment.
As it stands now, i could clear off the council tax but i'd leave myself short, i'm not prepared to put every penny i have into paying a debt off quicker when i could just stick to the agreement and still have money in the bank should i need it. While it seems the sensible thing to do i'd be !!!!!!ed if i came to a month where there's a cashflow shortage or some other unforseen expense like the washing machine deciding to die on me.
What i've done is built up a sum in my bill account which covers all the months outgoings, i just add to it every week out of my salary to ensure my balance never goes beneath that level. Dont want any horrible bank charges.
Thanks for the suggestions to those that made them, i'll have a look into some of the ideas.
Its all going well, i'm far more positive about everything now.LBM -

Hi there,
Do you live alone in the flat? If so, are you claiming your 25% council tax discount as sole occupier? If not you should and try to get it back dated, that could make a large dent in the debt0 -

Yeah i do get the discount.
So i've done the phonecall with CCCS this morning and managed a complete overhaul of everything i've listed above.
Gave me some very good advice and let me in on a few things within the law that creditors have threatened but cant follow through. The guy from CCCS even admitted to working for 2 of my creditors prior to CCCS so he told me a few juicy bits of inside information which left me feeling considerably more positive.
