Exhusband's debt?

I am really annoyed to come home from work to find a letter from a loan company addressed to my ex at my house. He has never lived here, or my previous house, as we split up 5 years ago. I am fuming, I am not sure if its a recent or a really old debt. I rang them and they said they searched the credit register and made an assumption that we were associated. Is this right? I asked to speak to the manager, he was going to ring me back an hour ago and lo and behold he hasn't rang. I am fuming and quite scared that he can be linked to my house?

  • Don't panic!
If the debt is nothing to do with you, you will not have to pay or your house associated with his debts.

They are trying it on (probably trying to locate him) any more letters send them back unopened - 'not at this address'.

You may want to get copies of your credit records to make sure your ex isn't mentioned as being financially associated.

  • I agree with ejones they are just trying it on. They probably won't speak to you as the loan is not in your name. send any other letters back unopened with "not known at this address" & forget about it

  • OK thanks, I was really upset when I opened it. Trying to put the past behind me and then something comes and bites ya on the bum!

give them his address??????? we did that with hubbys ex wife when we were harrassed for a payment from a loan they had 11half years previously.Unfortunately i contacted the people who sent the letter to tell them to bog off, but after talking to solicitor in family,he said we should have ignored all mail from them until 12 years was up then they couldnt claim anything from us?!
    lesson learnt.:o
