Thank you both, it seems to be heading in the right direction now which can only be a positive, still work to do as not quite paid off the 1k i had hope by now, however to be nearly 3 months in and paying down much more than i would have is a good sign. This time next month i will have paid more than 1k and be down under 5k

well done Dan - slow and steady is what gets you there - not boom and bust. At current rate of progress you'll be clear by this time next year, if you want to get much earlier than that you are going to have to radically tighten your spends, and IMHO that's not sustainable in your situation - although not undoable, just more painful than necessary.
I believe in a thing called the law of constant pain. Which is basically debt busting is painful, but do you want lots of pain for a short while, medium pain for a bit longer, or little pain for a long timeI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

I agree it is defo about finding a balance on how long/painful the journey is. I'm in a position at present where i know i am not been anywhere near as strict as i could be, however its becuase i am budgeting in certain catergories and still leaving myself a little wiggle room for the oops moments (less of these are happening) nearly 3 months in i am getting to grips with this and was aware there was no quick fix. I think i certainly can pay more than i am so that is in the back of my mind. However due to crap budgeting before my gas/electric is way higher than should be due to falling behind, Council tax was the same so i have got a grip of this too and know that although its little baby steps at present that i am setting myself up so that in the long run i am better able to have stable finances, which is as important to me as clearing the debt.0

that's a great way of looking at it. I like to think of changing thinking on spends as like a ratchet, you pull it tighter and it stays tighter and you can move onto the next step secure you have tightened your belt a little
you binning your costa coffee is a classic good example.
There's a thread on here called the 1% thread, which a lot of people with medium size debts like - basically you divide your outstanding balance by 100 and then tackle it 1% (or £50+ for you) at a time, it comes with a 10x10 print out for graphical reinforcementI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

That does make perfect sense to look at it like that and try break it down into smaller chunks. I still see 5k as a huge amount and i know that if i can tackle this over the course of 12 months as well as take down monthly outgoings its a good move. I would love to be able to afford a family holiday next year, last few months we have had some health scares in family and it really hit home that we have to make most of the time we are here (don't want that to sound morbid ) just a bit more conscious that life isn't forever0

I think slow and steady will win the race even if it does feel a little boring or slow going at times (definitely me recently
), keeping a diary here is definitely worth its weight in gold too
Keep going, you're doing so well!

Morning All,
Not updated for a few days, been a bus few days at work so not really had chance to update. There is not really much happening things seem to be flowing okay at the moment, done a few product testing things which got me some freebies haha so that always good!
I have decided that this month I am going to use the extra I have to clear the small balances off and get them out the way. Plus I should have enough to ensure my Mum finally gets paid offso once that is done I am going to hit reset a little and re do some targets that will see me through to end of year.
Last few days have all been NSDshad to put petrol in car but this came from funds already budgeted. Also will not need to do any food shop this week as the lot we got last week has lasted so well. Overall seem to just be ticking over and feels weird to not be worrying about money.
