Ladies' long/boot socks

The Lady Wife likes to wear black knee-high socks with her trousers and jeans, and also when she's wearing her wellies in the garden. But it seems that as each year passes, the quality available from the likes of M&S gets worse, so the question is - does anybody still do ordinary black cotton knee-high socks of decent quality at a sensible price? In case it helps to know, she's a ladies size 6

Look in the men's section in TKMxx. They sell high quality socks at reasonable prices. Mens socks are often harder wearing than ladies socks so perfect for wearing under wellies and boots.

I'd be looking at black knee-high school socks from the uniform section of well-known stores (such as M&S).

About the only thing I know about ladies' sock sizes is that a man's 6-7.5 is too big for a woman with size 6 feet. Looks like the answer is school socks then ...

you could try ebay but it's hit and miss for quality. I did find some lovely stripey socks on there, they came from Japan, the quality was excellent and they weren't skinny minny ones either.

Worth checking school outfitters (online, naturally) in case they are holding out socks that will fit at childrens prices ie VAT free.

Once found, buy in bulk to save on shipping & store away from rodents, pets & (if possible) sock snafflers.

I take it rugby socks have been examined & found unsuitable?

I am size 6. I buy my socks from the men's section of Poundstretcher. Slightly big on the heelbut I'll live with that @ 5 pairs for £1.99!

I like to wear long socks with my hiking boots. They are usually thicker than regular socks, and don't squirm off in my boots! I can usually only find them at winter time though... I think my current pairs were M&S. I don't think I've ever thought to look at the men's section! Could try the boys sports socks, if men's sizes are too big?
I did buy some boot socks from Trespass once, but they were clearly made for people with stick-thin legs! I couldn't get them on! In the end I made a cut of about 6 inches down them, so I could get my leg in! And although I've got fairly solid legs, I wouldn't call them fat, by any stretch!

I buy mine in Primark, very good quality. I think the best ones have bamboo in them. If it's really cold I wear two pairs.

My DD used to wear kilt socks.

I got some lovely black knee high socks in Peacocks but it was a few years ago. They are still wearing well although I only use them in winter. I also found some lovely stripy knee high socks in TK Max , again a few years ago.
