Rack of lamb - What shall I cook to go with it?

Options
Hi everyone,

My OH announced tonight that he's invited people for a meal for this Friday and he's also done a deal with our butcher for a couple of racks of lamb  I have never cooked a rack of lamb ever! the OH has asked the butcher to have it all nicely trimmed and posh looking like they do it on TV which he's gonna do but I have no idea what to cook with it

(I am gonna sear the meat in a frying pan - maybe with herbs and olive oil and then transfer to the oven for a bit - does that sound right?)

I am happy to cook for people and to try something I've never cooked before but for gawds sake I wish I had more notice!! I could strangle him sometimes, especially as he can't and won't cook

    Hi

I'd stick to something you are confidant with. It you do roasties and say brussels and glazed carrots with gravy, mint sauce etc and then an easy to serve pud , a crumble tart and nice vanilla ice cream or something like this (looks good but not something you need to worry about) so that you are relaxed.

    Have fun

Yes, I was thinking that it'd be a bit stressful attempting something I don't even know what it tastes like!! at least I know how roasties/gravy/mint sauce taste and I love glazed carrots with parsley! think I'll do that! good idea Cuddles but thanks also Craig for your link.. if I'd have had more time and all that.......

You don't really need to sear it, as it will cook very fast anyway. Put it on a high temperature (220 is what I use) for 20-30 minutes depending on whether you like it pink. It's also nice if you put a crumb topping on the outer bit of the meat - breadcrumbs mixed with mustard works well. Yummy yummy meat (though I'd usually do one rack for two people).
