And I am a Francofile!!
Scraping away at the layers of French bureaucracy?:)0 -
Are you having social charges deducted? If you live outside France then you should not be paying these as France is not paying for your healthcare. I tried to explain that all residents of the UK get full free access to the NHS but they insisted on a document so ultimately I got a letter from my GP practice confirming that I was registered with them & showing my NHS number.
Another very useful gem from our resident French pension expert.

OH has still not succeeded in accessing his complementary pension....
Presumably he has taken all the actions suggested in previous posts?
If so, has he managed to discover the source of the problem?0 -

Reading this thread with interest as I worked in France for 3 years back in the 1990s. One year through a temping agency and 2 with a French company.
I've never considered trying to track down any pension rights as I've been assuming the effort would outweigh the rewards. Looking at your experiences I might well be right. I wasn't particularly well paid but the last 2 years was on around £25k.
I'm now 57 and hoping to retire in a couple of years with DB and DC pensions to keep me going to state pension age.
Worth chasing the French or not?0 -

Worth chasing the French or not?
Definitely worth pursuing, although may be easiest just to wait till you claim your UK state pension and get them to start to chase up on your behalf. From earlier posts, it seems you may still need to do some work yourself at that point to claim the complementary part.
I lived in France for 4 years in the early 90s and expect to claim my French pensions in a couple of years' time, so fingers crossed that it will go smoothly.
The annual amount I should get (according to my records on the French pensions website) will be about 9.5 % of my French salary back in the 90s (salary didn't change much over the 4 years).
If you were to apply a very simplistic approach to get a very rough ballpark figure, you might expect to get £1781per annum from age 67. That's based on £25000 times 9.5% times 0.75 (your 3 years instead of my 4 years.) Obviously it is not really fair to simply scale up/down my numbers like this but at least that gives you some feeling for the sort of money we're talking about.
Is £1781 per year worth the effort of chasing it up ?0 -
Thank you DeepSporran. Definitely worth some of my time in that case.0
