Men's stockings!

I want to make a Christmas stocking for my DH this year, I don't think he's ever had one, and I am a little stuck for ideas. He likes wine but he buys it himself by the box other than that he likes Man U (hope that doesn't stop anyone reading on:-)). It could include quite expensive stuff and be his main present as I have no clue for Christmas at all.
Any ideas appreciated.

I always put the slightly practical things that you'd never wrap up and put under the tree, like the special spoon thing for getting olives/pickled onions out of jars, as well as the silly things like the bug splatter gun I got for £1 from Smiffys or somewhere which has been the best pressie ever, still makes me laugh as he leaps out of bed to get a fly flying round the bedroom!. You can also put the naughty/sexy things in if you are going to be opening them on your own in bed!
Don't forget the chocolate money and the satsuma (or chocolate orange ) in the toe!0 -

How about traditional stuff like chocolate coins, satsuma, socks, tie if he has a job where he needs to dress smart then hankies, then how about some silly stuff try www.dealextreme.co.uk I like their cable managers or for the bigger boys stuff have a look on www.gadgetvenue.com for some ideas. If he has an office job what about a toy for his desk like miniature marble run, they never do grow up. Is he into music you could get him an Ipod or shuffle, no idea what they are exactly but my kids have them. Favourite music for the car, try to find out what his favourite game as a child and try to get him one. Check out ebay for Man U stuff. My grown up sons spent ages couple of christmases playing with a foam disc shooter, cheap enough to not worry about if he gets bored quickly. One year my son in law was envious as one of my sons openend a package with a polystyrene plane in it, cost about 25p, then was thrilled as he got one. How about a delux YoYo. I know most of these are silly but believe me we all have a child within us. You could find out what sweets he liked as a child then trace them on-line for him. Hope this helps.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
You could always do the stocking itself to look like a ManU sock. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Thank you guys, some great ideas already and I've only left the house and come back! Sethsgran, lots of gadgets to go with and I agree they never do grow up so I'm going to stick some kids stuff in there, didn't think of that. He loved action man and our youngest son is a fighting little monkey so maybe one each of those should keep the two of them busy. One 5 one 38 and you won't be ablt to tell which is which I'm sure :-)

Lovely idea. We do stockings every year and now we have small children we have all started opening our stockings in bed together before going down to see what santa left. I normally put small cheap things in my hubby's stocking, practical and some little treats. Some favourites:
Socks
Boxer shorts
Terry's chocolate orange (they have lots of flavours this year - yum!)
Disney chocolate lollipops (everyone gets at least 2 of these!)
Maltesters (yes we love chocolate in our house)
Little puzzles like those ball bearing mazes
Tangerine (well you have to don't you?!)
Diary or filofax inserts for the next year
Small book
It's one of the best parts of christmas for me - planning what goes in the stockings and then opening them up on christmas morning!!0 -
Pobby, thank you you've spurred me on. Thought it was a good idea as dh didn't have great christmas pressies as a wee bean and I want to try to give him a flavour of what our kids enjoy. Puzzles are a good idea and christmas socks will definitely make it in there. Women are much easier to choose from aren't they?0

I gave up doing stockings a few years ago, I don't know why really. But you lot have inspired me. My son is having £100 towards his laptop fund, but that won't make him get up for christmas so I think I will do my teenagers and maybe DH one now.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I had an ex who hankered after a stocking just like when he was a kid ... except he was nearly 30.
So I made one and in it I put: 3 kinder eggs (he liked those); pack of nudie playing cards; some individual "shots" (alcohol); small pick n mix style sweets in boxes (easy to wrap, look cheery); novelty lighter; really bouncy mini ball; random nuts, random sweets, topped with a satsuma. Can't remember what else was in there. But I wrapped everything individually and with different papers.
So I just bought fun/cheery/small things that were themed around his age/sex and likes, but also included the unexpected (bouncy ball - pointless, but hours of fun)0 -

) but up until a few years ago I used to put in things in his llike :
Xmas day underwear & socks
New toothbrush & sometimes I found silly flavoured toothpaste (whiskey & cheese & onion crisp flavours are 2 that particually stand out!)
Deodorant/fancy or silly soap/bubble bath (usually Matey!)/shower gel
CD of the Xmas number 1
Occasionally new wallet/cheap-ish watch
Small framed photographs
Pair of Marigolds for him to do the washing up after Xmas lunch!
Photo mug/named mug/money box
Paperbacks (often bought in chairty shops)
Scarves, gloves, beanie hats.
Stationary, once after complaining that I could never hang onto my calculator at work he got all sort of pens, pencils, ruler, calculator, stapler etc with my name on!
