Thanks Enthusiastic Saver. Free in three would be amazing but unfortunately my spreadsheet shows me extending beyond that by a fair bit. If it was just me I could live on a shoestring and clear it very quickly but you are a long time dead and couldn't live that frugally with the kids etc. We do live very sensibly though. The wife is an excellent cook (prob why I need to lose a few more lbs!) and our fridge goes from full to empty just in time for a weekly shop. Because she does so much from scratch I think our total food bill is very reasonable with no waste whatsoever. Neither of us smoke or drink (odd tipple) but our weakness is holidays as we both love to travel.
I think something like a 25% reduction will be my goal for this year. Depending on what overtime comes my way that may be +/- but I would be happy with that this year.
Well the batteries on my drill have finally given up so a bit of a shopping trip (none cc) is required on the way home otherwise the other half will not be happy with (lack of) progress in the diy stakes and my son will not be happy if his new room isn't ready soon, even if he is planning on covering in ghastly Man Utd paraphernalia!Worst debt £31,746

well just time for a quick update, not much has happened since my last check in, and January being fairly quiet.
Diy coming on and I'm now a dab hand at plastering. Well that's stretching it a bit but I can skim well enough to convince people who have visited that it was done by someone with more than 2 weeks experience so I'm happy.
Feb is a big month birthday wise, I think half my family was born in February, must have been nothing on the tv in May so made sure to budget for all that, and savings growing nicely although will be dipped into for car servicing.
Opening outstanding balance on loans and cc's.....£35,274
Feb 1 - Total outstanding balance on loans and cc's.....£32,280 (-£2,994)
My drill was an old ni-cd one and I was going to get a knew one but then I googled that some people have frozen their batteries, worth a try I thought, so stuck it in the freezer for 24hours, then let it charge up. Result- not bad, certainly gives me a decent enough charge to do a few odd jobs so put off buying any more toys (damn) until it gives up altogether.
Coming up on that first 10%, and the first few weeks of overtime are on the horizon so hopefully can knock a bit more off.Worst debt £31,746

sorry, just realised how messy 2,994 looks so paid off another £6 to make it a nice round £3,000

I hate odd figures too so would have done the same. £3k reduction is great in a short period of time. Almost 10%. I know a lot was down to the bonus but still. If you manage to keep doing as well things will look very different for you by this November.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Which if my numbers are correct marks the 10.002% milestone!! woohooo Only really small steps this month but I'm happy.
Still a long way to go but next stop sub £30k which will be good to see and be an extra little bit of motivation.Worst debt £31,746
