Munchin's Marvellous Debt Busting Diary

Afternoon,
I'm on my lunch and plotting and planning for 2019, as you do.
My aims for 2019 haven't really changed even though my circumstances have.
Plans for 2019
- To be debt free....again:o
- £6,000 Emergency fund (hope to be half way in 2019).
- £3,000 for dream holiday
- £5,000 rewire & paint house.
1) April - I'm fairly certain my policy matures in April and I will get £3000 odd at that time. I plan on putting £1,000 towards my debt and the other £2,000 towards my Emergency fund. (I'm going to email and ask when it matures - will be sad if I've got the dates mixed up).
2) July - £3,000 saved for dream holiday. I don't know if I will really spend it all on a holiday or it will just be there as a security and that I have that option.
3) Dec - Debt fee - once I have saved for the dream holiday then I will put £250 towards my debt.
4) Dec - I will hopefully have £3,000 saved towards my Emergency fund. Once dream holiday and debt is gone then I can put the extra £500 towards the Emergency fund and Rewiring and painting house fund.
Mini version of my plans for 2019 is that Debt and holiday will be fully funded. Emergency fund will be half way there and I will be starting the rewiring and painting fund.
I am well aware of the saying 'God Laughs when you make plans.'

I think its a great idea to plan for 2019. It gives you good focus and something to aim for! They seem like really good aims to go for. I've also been thinking about 2019 resolutions (I know, I know...) and have some I'd like to work towards. I didn't really think of putting dates against them but you've given me the idea too, will help me stay focused!August 2019 - Debt £8000
June 2020 - Debt £190.96
Saving Pots: House Fund: £2015.21 Holiday Pot: £327.31 Rainy Day Fund: £964.84 Sod it/Treat Fund: £12.06

Munchin you're spending a lot of money on your mum's house which is lovely of you, but will you ever get that money back? Or is it in lieu of rent or something? Do you want a mortgage of your own at some point? Sorry if I'm being nosey
.
It's a good idea to re read your therapy notes because you have had a lot of changes recently. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Hi HHD & Impulse - I love a plan but sticking to it is a problem
.
Mum’s house is technically mine. It was signed over to me not long after my dad died and I’ve always paid for any work that needs done. Mum decided that the least hassle was to pass it to me because I wouldn’t turf any of the family out that needed somewhere to live (not sure about that). It cost about £2,500 to solicitor to sort which I thought was bit steep. I lived with Mum for a very long time after I moved back from England before ex OH and the first few years I was dating ex OH, so being home isn’t a big deal. Emotionally the break up was but the choice of lodging was easy:). Mums used to the revolving doors of her kids moving back in. I was going to think about renting after Xmas but to be honest I’m quite content here at the moment.
Sorry prob too much information - time to make a move.0 -
That explains it all Munchin. I love your mum's open door policy
. I'm like that in that I love having the kids here and I always want to have three spare bedrooms in case they ever need a place to live
.
You should definitely stay with your mum. Why chuck money away on rent? I bet your mum loves having your company.

Mum is so happy. She knew I wasn’t happy for a long time and is in her element having a happy daughter than a stressed out miserable one. She threatened once to let my tires down so I couldn’t go back and to move home there and then
. I know that we (her children no matter our age) are very fortunate as none of us would ever feel like we were imposing.
You should smell this house tonight as Mum cooked a Xmas cake earlier (for Uncle) and another one on now (for brother) and tomorrow a wee one will go on for the house.
Spends today £17.71 at dentist which was for a check up and a clean. Tomorrow I will have to pay for parking and a drink at a concert - so tenner a day is going to be in the minus this week but should claw it back next week and it’s not frittering0 -
Morning,
Andrea Rieu was amazing last night and Mum and I had a ball. On the spending front it wasn't too bad as I had paid for tickets months ago and it cost £8.20 for a wine and a soft drink and £3 for parking. I knew the traffic would be terrible so we headed up in good time. We were the 2nd to last car to be let into the carpark. I could have found other parking but it wouldn't have been as convenient for Mum.
The next concert I'm down for is Pink which I think is in June. We are going to Glasgow to see her and the tickets and flights are paid for and I have an 'event fund' which currently has £50 in it which is towards the cost of hotel and enjoying time in Glasgow. I need to fund it a lot more after Xmas.
I popped into Mr Ts this morning and spent £14.20, everything was on my grocery list but I'm not sure if I really needed everything on the list if you see what I mean. I got squirty cream for hot chocolate - probably could have done without it but it is Dec ...it was that kind of shop.
Tenner a day is in the red but it covered a concert night out, a trip to the cinema and the dentist this week. I might be able to get back in the green by the end of next week. I do have a dinner out, trip to the beauticians and a Xmas party this week but I have £25 in works savings club towards Xmas party
I have a volunteer AGM tonight which I'm not looking forward to but I have about 3 mins of speaking to do so once that is over then I can relax.
Weekly spends - w/c 01th Dec - tenner a day
Sat - 01 -£10 - £10 McD
Sun - 02 - £10 - NSD1

Quick update on 2019 plans.
I contacted Zopa who I invest with and they said there isn't a policy end date as such but what I can do is sell at 1% or turn of my reinvestment tool and by 2023 I would have the full value of my money back. I've given it some thought and I just think I will turn off the reinvestment button and just let my money accumulate with them. If I get into diffs and need the money earlier then I will sell it. I'm going to give myself 2 Emergency fund targets - an easy access £1,000 target and a long term target of £5000 (Zopa).
It might take me a bit longer to be debt free but lifting £1,000 from savings would have only cut the debt down by 4 months.
Plans for 2019
- Current debt - £5,489 -To be debt free....again:o
- £50/£1,000 Emergency fund (quick access)
- Emergency fund 2 (longer term) - £2,600/£5,000 target.
- £1,250/£3,000 for dream holiday
- £0/£5,000 rewire & paint house.

Hi
Today has been a good day. Stomach is on the mend and Pup & I went for a run in the forest. Ok it was a slow jog and only for 15 mins as I haven’t been well or run in ages. It was good and not too many niggles. Ringing doc on Mon to get a referral to a new sports clinic my friend recommended.
After I washed pup I cleaned the windows and washed outside doors. It’s quite muggy and grey here today so I’m not sure if they are all streaky or I’ve done a reasonable job..time will tell. I got new curtains for my room and sorted it out now I’m going to be here for a while.
After that I cleaned the house and hoovered. We had 3 ripe bananas and I made a banana loaf which is in the oven.
Pup & I have just sat down for a well earned coffee. I wish I had this energy every day.
No spends today ...so far:)

You've had a productive day. I must get off the sofa and do something useful myself
