  • So it was payday again last week, and this month I have £2 now to last me! Including Christmas, so no presents for anyone this year :(

I just feel like crying all the time, I can't afford to go out anywhere, I just sit in my room. I've sold everything I have of value. I just don't know what to do.

    Hi Southernbelle,

I'm not a regular on this board, so can't really give any advice, but you sound so down, I just had to post to say chin up. Christmas isn't just about presents, and if you have any family, they will probably just be happy to see you.

Just a thought, try checking on the Freebies board, some clever people have got freebies and then made up Christmas hampers using them.

Also, you could try the Old Style board which will help with meal planning and making what little you have, go further

Also, have you tried talking to the Citizens Advice Bureau to see if they can give you any money advice. I notice that you say you have some bagged coppers to take to the bank, but my Asda has a change machine that you put your coppers into and it changes it for you - they do charge a small commission.

Don't give up, you have taken the first step in recognising your problem, and there is lots of help and advice on this site.

    Good luck x

  • southernbelle i will keep an eye on your thread because your debt is quite close to mine as is your income
And i live at home with my mum so i feel for you because i like you dont really have that much outgoing everything i earn goes to debts and rent and my car loan etc

Leaving me with a grand sum of £80 a month just for me for presents etc and stuff like that its rubbish but i dont miss buying things anymore because i'm in the habit of knowing i cant have them and more importantly i dont need them

But you should remember £10 or so does add up even though it may not seem like it
    Good luck

Hello, just wanted to say Hi and please remember it will get better. Have a mooch around the forum, there are some great threads especially the 'moneysaving old style'. Some really good ideas there. Also this forum will really help when you're feeling down. Keep posting your diary, have a rant and a rave on it if you need to. Don't keep it all in. Best of luck with it all and remember that you've started your journey to being debt free, that can only be a good thing.:D

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

I could come sit with you! ;):p

But seriously, where has your money gone this month?

Whats your credit rating like? Can you apply for a 0% credit card and shift the overdraft to that?
  • ;) Southernscouser.

    This month:
£500 to smile paying off my O/D
£400 to pay for a trip that's compulsory for my job
£75 HSBC charges for going over my O/D last month
    £30 food
    £30 car insurance

And that about takes it up. :(

    Southernbelle,

Have you seen the thread about claiming back your bank charges - is that something you could do ?

Also, if the trip is for work, can't they contribute something ?

You really need to see the Citizens Advice Bureau, surely these people can't all your money and leave you nothing ?

Please go and get some advice, there must be something they can do

  • I thought that we were advised not to try and reclaim bank charges? Could look at my credit card statements and see if there's anything I can claim back there (don't think there is though). Work have contributed to the trip, £400 is what's left for me to pay. Need to find some spending money from somewhere too

I'm not sure what CAB could do  There's no way I can declare bankrupt or anything.

    Monthly Incomings:
Salary £1159 - this should be at least £200 but I'm on the wrong tax code at the moment. It is in the process of being sorted! I think I'll get at least £1000 back when it is fixed.

    Monthly Outgoings:
Smile O/D repayments: £600 for next 3 months
Subscriptions etc: £80 ish (changes every month)
    Mobile: £40
    Car Insurance: £35
    Petrol: £30
    Food: £40

    total £825

Now I can see from your other posts why this month is a nightmare, with the trip, but where is the other £334 going in other months?

It might be an idea to start a spending diary and see where the rest of the money is going.

And with Christmas coming, any chance of doing a few evenings in a pub or supermarket over the festivities? Could find you enough to stop you going over the OD this month and a bit to spend when away.
