Hello everyone,
I am in a huge mess at the moment and I am freaking out.
In short I owe PayPal £1,100 and I am unable to pay it. I have had an issue gambling and I built this amount up as they allowed you to deposit money on the betting site and it didn't leave your bank account until a few days later.
Can anyone advise what I can do about this or does anyone have any experience of this?
I want to pay the money back but I will be embarking on a DMP shortly with StepChange and I am physically sick with worry. I can't eat, sleep etc. and I have recently been contemplating suicide over this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Ok, reality check here, its just another non priority debt to service, simply add it your DMP.
What i would suggest is getting help with the gambling, the debt can easily be dealt with.
There are plenty more folk in much more serious debt than you are, try and take a more realistic approach to this.

I have recently been contemplating suicide over this.
Try and get a sense of perspective. It's only money and you can't go to prison for this sort of debt. It really isn't worth ruining your health for and there are places you can go to for help (see Sourcrates post above).I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Thank you sourcrates and iolanthe07.
I am just back from an emergency appointment with my GP there. I have been given anti-depressant medication and sleeping tablets to help me sleep (one-off). My GP is also getting therapy arranged for me too. This has been building and building and finally I came apart today - I have never cried as much in my life and I still am now.
But, I am ready to own up and take action for what I did. The gambling I am totally ashamed of and needs to be addressed definitely. I think I'll find it difficult to forgive myself for what I done but I will try.
Thank you both for posting. It really means a lot to me.0 -

Hi
Please put down that stick you are using to beat yourself with. Do it NOW.
I would be willing to assert that very person on these forums who has done something they would be ashamed to admit to (I certainly have and it was an illegal act).
You have an addiction, however there is only one person who can beat that addicion and you see them every time you look in the mirror. You are not a bad person, but you do need help.
Think of it this way. If you broke your leg because you weren't looking where you were going and fell over would you refuse crutches to help you get better? Of course not. So please look on the DMP as a "crutch" to help you get better money wise. And use groups sucg as Gamblers Anonymous for the addiction.
There are loads of people who are either going through what you are going through, or have gone through it and have come out on the other side. Stay with us, it may be a bumpy ride but one day (hopefully) you will look back and see how much you have achieved.
If you want an inspirational post then read the opening post in "Eleven years a slave"
Good luck, remember the longest journey starts with just one step.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -

Thank you for your kind words tealady. I appreciate you taking the time to write them. It means a lot to me - it really does.
I can't believe what I have done but I am hopeful I'll learn to forgive myself some day for it.
I will definitely read over the "Eleven years a slave" again. I did start reading some of it before today happened - it seemed like such an inspiring read.
I can't believe how things transpired today. I thought today would just be another day but I gave myself the kick required to say no, it has to be addressed. Here's hoping things will get better from here on in.
I will keep posting to keep you all informed, I promise.
Thank you again tealady.0
