Man's silk dressing gown

Have converted my DH to the beauty of silk by finding some lovely plain shirts in charity shops. And now I'd love to buy him a silk dressing gown for his birthday. Anyone got any suggestions where I could find a plain one (he's a conservative kind of chap) without mortgaging the house?

I know this is meant for a woman, but it looks very plain...

This is definitely for a man, but 3 times the price:-

And there are 4 or 5 options here:-

Aren't they? I tidied a wardrobe yesterday and found 5 dressing gowns - I can't really justify a 6th...:DThe IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Can you not? I'm sure I could! those other five, at least 3 of them probably need to be condemned for some reason, and a silk one would be so small and versatile for taking away anywhere, no space at all in your suitcase and then both warm or cool at your destination!Js_Other_Half wrote:Aren't they? I sounded DH out today by saying I'd wondered about getting him one only I'd found a site where they cost £200, and I think he's quite keen, just not at that price!
Only question about the NZ prices - there wouldn't be a customs tax payable on that would there? Don't suppose you know?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I like the way you think Savvy_Sue

Anyway, here is what the site says on customs and excise:-
"*Customs duty and sales tax: It very rarely happens because we strive to keep the packages small in size and use mostly recycled boxes, but if your parcel is stopped by your country's customs and they wish for you to pay a duty or sales tax, please understand that we cannot be responsible for random bad luck. However, we would like to know about it so we can learn and be better prepared. We are against obstacles to free trade so please understand that in the few cases where this has happened, it has been outside of our control"
They also have a freephone no 0800-028 0664, they might be able to give you an idea on figures etc?The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Js Other Half, did you find the Possum Fur Nipple Warmers :rotfl:
It's a good job we're broke this month or I'd have spent a fortune! (No, NOT on those!)
(Sorry, I can't make the link go to the right page, but I'm not joking, they really are there!)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Are they worth the money as my oh only wears his for 1/2 hour at the most. Personally I think the plain look a bit girly and the patterned remind me of my Dad's jim jams. Not exactly sexy.:o
Why not go for some silk sheets instead. If you both wore silk pj's you would have some fun trying to stay in bed

Ah well, that's a good MSE thought, but my OH wears his dressing gown quite a lot at the mo because his legs are in a bit of a state (eczema) and he's most comfy wearing as little as possible.
And he doesn't really 'do' patterns, so I think the plain will suit him as long as he doesn't realise it's meant to be for girls! Didn't see patterned on the NZ site, which is where I ordered from last night - so he'd better like it!
I've been wondering about silk sheets but resisting so far. Have bought him a silk liner for his sleeping bag for when we go away! Will have to see how well that takes a hot wash: usually do sheets at 60 to kill off the dustmites!
Wearing one of the long-sleeved shirts I bought for him, but it's a deep pink / maroon so he won't wear it, it's fab! Keeps me at a perfect temperature, even when I cycled to church this morning!!!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

:rotfl:I am not going to comment - at all...:whistle:The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
I found myself describing them at work (all women, I hasten to add!) and I fear a pair may be sought out as the boss's daughter lives in NZ!Js_Other_Half wrote::rotfl:I am not going to comment - at all...:whistle:Signature removed for peace of mind0
