Yes you can freeze. So a frozen food in it's raw state such as meat or salmon can be cooked into a dish such as roast lamb or salmon pasta and then any leftovers can be frozen. I know that people tend to freeze meat in gravy and it turns out very nicely. Once a frozen meal has been defrosted and re-heated I would not keep any leftovers so portion control to avoid waste.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

yes once the meat has been cooked and is cold it can be frozen to use at a later date in perhaps a pie or pasta.great way to save left overs and save throwing good food into the bin I can honestly say I have never binned food since owning a freezer. My late Mum bless her said to throw food away was to feed the devil :):):)
  • I have a tendency to buy too many vegetables. I have started turning the excess into a veggie lasagne, chilli, curry or pasta sauce once a week and there's often enough left for lunch the next day or even to freeze. I also chop onions and peppers and freeze them flat on a tray then bag them up and keep them in a draw in the freezer for those days when I need a meal in a hurry.

I find that my grocery shopping bill has not risen much over the past five years. It's not that prices haven't got up as they obviously have. It's just that I've wasted less and shopped better.

My favourite streeetch is a pack of cooking bacon, I buy 600g in the poundshop, I always search for one with chunky bits not rashers and cut it into 4.

One portion does a big quiche with mushrooms and sweetcorn 4-6 portions depending on how much of a pig I want to be

One portion does four pizzas using leftover french stick

One portion does 4 bag, onion and potato pies

and the fourth portion fried up with onion mushrooms and tomato tops 4 big baked potatoes.

16 meals from one pack cant be bad.

Edited to say I have had a play with a roasted chicken today and have managed to get 20 possible meals, posted in GChallenge. Would love to have some more ideas for this.

parsniphead the suet roll is traditionally made with bacon, onion and potatoe, which may be an option for you if you like bacon? I think its called Bucks Clanger or something like that. Gammon and onion is an adaptation.

To be fair though, we preferred the sausage and beans one!

We've just eaten the third meal from the gammon joint- gammon and egg pie, it was beautiful! Although only one of the three kids ate it. No surprise there though, there is only ever one of the three kids that eat the food I serve.
Funnily enough its the same one that eats every time! Can always count of the youngest to lick his plate clean!

Had toad in the hole yesterday and had 3 sausages left so just made up a small box stuffing added some chopped onion and HM red onion chutney and made a wellington with HM shortcrust pasty. This will be tea tomorrow with beans and new potatoes. Should be some leftover for hubs for pack up. Had about a quarter mixture leftover and some pastry so made a a smaller version, more like a giant sausage roll. This is going into the freezer for another meal. I'm with all you lovely people I get so much pleasure making things stretch. I love sitting down to meal plan and seeing what I can come up with. Must say though it has been abit hot in the kitchen tonight. Our kitchen is south facing and even with the blinds shut its like an oven. Hope you all had a good day.

I do several things with any leftover chicken not very exciting but it makes a few meals. Make up stuffing, add chopped chicken, and onion form into patties or rissoles and shallow fry. I sometimes add gravy if hubs wants a gravy dinner with veg or have with beans and potatoes or chips. Another is to cook up some basmati rice wait till cool and add cooked chicken, I add some microwaved frozen veg mix from aldi (the pea, carrot and sweetcorn one) cooled then stir through some sweet chilli sauce. This is a favourite for pack ups that can be microwaved when hubs has his break. This week I used some leftover chicken with leftover gammon. Made up a white sauce infused with onion and bayleaf and made a nice deep pie. Enough for 3 of us with one piece left that I had for my tea the following night with some salad. I sometimes make a stir fry adding leftover veg. I usually buy the small Aldi chicken for 2.99 and get quite a lot out of it. Hubs doesn't like boned joints so I always take meat off the bone and use the bones for stock. Have you got you ideas on the other thread Meg?

  • Well done, that is an epic list! I am also impressed by how much room in the freezer you must have to fit it in - I'm always squeezing things in here and there!

Your meals sound yummy too, nice one :)
