We don't eat out very often now but when we do we are always dissapointed by the quality and taste of the food.
I so agree, OH and I went on holiday and hadn't eaten out for a good while as we were saving pennies for the trip. We didn't have a single meal where there wasn't something about it not quite right.
Yet on Sunday, I marinated some meat and made some salads and HM bread rolls for a BBQ at home and it was a great meal - everyone commented on the food. I then used some leftover steak for some stir fried chinese on Monday evening! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I'm so glad I've become an OS'er. Not just for the health and financial aspects but also it has changed my views on so many things. I think it has given me a headstart for the present economic climate. I really wonder how people who have belonged to the "I want it now", culture are going to manage if things get much worse economically.January spend = £100

I agree with that, OS has filtered down through all areas of my life, and I'm now pretty much a non-consumer of new things. I love to reuse, recycle etc - it gives me the kind of satisfaction and feeling of independence that you just don't get from flashing a bit of plastic at a checkout!
One thing's for sure, if the doom and gloom merchants were right (which I dont believe) then us OS'ers would be streets ahead! :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

WELL DONE!!!
I ALWAYS use Brian Turners way after finding the recipe, only occasioanlly vary with half water half milk if I am short of milk, downside is my first attempt with them they hit the top of the oven and caught fire because I didn't expect them to rise and had the shelf too highOne day I might be more organised...........

Could you possibly post the recipe? I have been failing miserably for weeks trying to do decent yorkies.

I have always used Brian Turners receipe, and have never failed once.
Here's what you do:
If you use a ramekin, or cup fill with equal quantities of flour, milk, eggs and a dash of vinegar. Don't worry if you use 2 eggs or 4 eggs, it will depend on the size of your eggs.
It's all about equal volume rather than actual measurements.

As natty68 has said it is all about volume sift the flour (plain) with a pinch of salt add eggs and half the other liquid until smooth then whisk in the remainder of the liquid. Heat your baking tin in the oven with a little oil or beef dripping then pour in the batter. I cooked mine for about 20 mins they weresmall ones done in a small bun tray. The other thing is don't open the oven. Think I'm an expert now lol;)0

I usually do them in a muffin tray, big huge yorkies nomnomnombad for diets however.
The other good thing about this recipe is you're just using equal volumes, no scales needed (good for me because my batteries keep going flat) so any cup/ramekin/bowl will do and it's easy to increase the quantities, just use a larger measure or 2 measures. One childs ikea cup of each is ideal for 12 muffin tray ones
Oh and it works fine with powdered milk aswell, ideal for when you have no milk or are running short. One day I might be more organised...........
