Little Pickle's Debt Diary

Howdy all,

Since I was here last, I have managed to pay a lot off of my debt and my personal life has had an unheaval too.

So, here we go with brand new shiny totals....

My monthly salary - £1,505.00

Monthly Outgoings:
Rent £575.00
Bills £0.00 (included in rent)

Phone £20.00
Food (dinners) £100.00 (to work on)
Dental Care £12.50
Pension £40.00
Travel £50.00
Total: £797.50
Remaining £707.50

Debts
Barclaycard Balance £200.00 (limit £1,650.00) APR 21.9%
Parents Balance £1,425.00 (interest free!)
Old Account overdraft Balance £153.46 (interest free O/D of £250.00)
TOTAL: £1,778.46

So there we have it! When I joined MSE, I was £3,781.08 in debt... so I have managed to reduce that by £2,002.62!!!! :T

I am now living on my own, so it's more expensive, day to day, but I'm hoping to be debt free by maybe February???
I hope I can do it!

Morning LP! Hope you've managed to unpack everything!

How do you intend to split your "spare" money for your repayments? On a percentage of the total or snowballing?

  • Hello Ladies!
No, I'm not unpacked yet!!! There is so much stuff I need in order to unpack... bookshelves etc otherwise just leave a big pile of dirty boxes in the corner!!!

    Okay,
I actaully get paid weekly and my monthly total above is a rough estimate of how much I would 'usually' get (I have averaged it out).

I repay my debts in the following fashion at the moment, but as I have just moved into my new flat, it should take a few weeks to know exactly how to handle them properly (especially when it comes to food etc).

Credit Card - £25.00 per week
    Mum & Dad - £25.00 per week
    Barclays O/D - £15.00 per week

I know that my credit card should be paid off soon, but I have a bill to add to that (for counselling / food allergy tests) which is, I think, about £300.00.

I'm having Reiki with her today, so I may see if I can pay her back everything weekly instead???

Once the CC is paid off, I plan to up my payments to my folks to get it paid off ASAP. I think I could, if I'm a very good girl, have them paid off by Feb - but then there is Christmas etc to think about, so who knows?

    Hope this makes sense?

  • Hey all,

Okay, the update is that despite the bill for £300.00 coming in, I managed to throw all of the money I could at the debt and am only £106.54 worse off than I was before the bill! :T

    My totals are now:

    CreditCard - £300.00
    Overdraft - £210.00
    M&D - £1,375.00

I should be CreditCard and Overdraft free by the 2nd week of January…

I wonder if I should try and challenge myself to be CC & O/D free by the Friday before Christmas weekend??? Hmmm… that’s got me thinking!

The only problem is, that I’m saving for a big trip abroad at the end of Feb next year which will cost a packet… Am I trying to do too much???

I could always give up smoking and add that to my debt or savings… that’s a massive £18.00 per week on ciggies! My god! That’s shocking!
  • oh darn it!
I wayyyyyy overspent this weekend!!!! now I only have 3 pounds to last me until Thursday! Oh well, at least I have enought in the cupboards to keep me going and I didn't actually go over budget!

  • Okay LP... here's your new SOA!!!

    Per week
    Incoming £370.00

    Outgoing
    Rent (including all bills) £145.00
    Food £15.00
    Travel £13.70
    Going out £15.00
    LP spends £5.00
    TOTAL £193.70

    Remaining £176.30 per week

    Debts paid weekly
    Credit card £45.00
    M &D Loan £25.00
    O/D £5.00 (interest free)
    TOTAL £75.00

Overall total remaining per week £101.30
I plan to save £60.00 per week towards my flight to NZ in Feb, leaving me with £41.30 per week spare.

After this I have the following monthly:
    Dental Plan £12.50
    Pension £40.00
    Mobile £25.00

So the extra £41.30 per week extra will cover this.

    I currently owe the following:
Credit Card £241.35 (21% APR) DFD on this card based on SOA: 21.12.2007
M&D Loan £1,350.00 (no APR of course!) DFD on this card based on SOA: 18.04.2008
O/D £222.36 (interest free) DFD on this card based on SOA: 31.03.2008

    TOTAL: £1,813.71

Obviously, as soon as the Credit Card is paid off, I will adjust to pay off the O/D and more to M&D.

It’s a tough one! But I’ve also included (in my big fancy spreadsheet) £20.00 per week for Christmas = £100.00 starting in a couple of weeks.

    phew!

Hi LP I hope you settle down well in your new home. I would get that Barclaycard paid off first!

    Hey LP,

Glad to see you getting everything worked out so you know what to do next :)
Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month
  • RIGHT! Time for a shake up!

I've been getting there gradually, but I need to take another lump sum off my debt...!

I've budgeted for EVERYTHING over the next few months and that shows that I'll be debt free with CreditCard and old Overdraft on 29.02.2008, leaving only my loan from mum and dad and that will be paid off by 16.05.2008.

So, at the moment, if everything goes to plan, I'll be COMPLETELY debt free 16.05.2008...

Okay, I am going to sell on eBay, do some more daily clicks... overtime where I can. Maybe even try to budget even more than I already am.

I would really like to not be starting the new year too much left on my debt!

SO - first things first... EBAY HERE I COME!!!! :D
