I’m feeling shattered after a stressful day at work but am continuing on:

Dust and hoover lounge & conservatory
    Buy stamp for niece’s card
    Go for a walk

    Everything achieved yesterday:)

  • I'm feeling overwhelmed with everything I need to do. My house and garden are a tip, I need to Tidy and declutter but can't seem to get started. The task just seems too big. Well done tjp70 for managing to continue after your stressful day.

Can you start with just one area Gracie so you can see a difference? Overwhelm is tiring and tricky then to even start. Could you also time yourself for 15 mins and do tasks in these short bursts? I followed flylady years ago and that worked well for me at that time. I know there’s a thread on here but I picked out what helped me. I remember a thing called a 27 fling boogie where you got a bag and threw out 27 things. I even counted bits of paper sometimes but it kept me motivated.

    Morning Gracie.

I totally agree with wmf - start with one area, a small one. Once you can actually see some progress, you will get your mojo back.

There is a challenge created by The Minimalists. On the first of the month you declutter one item out of the house. On the second day you declutter two items, and the third day you declutter three. And so on, for 31 days (or 30 if you start September 1st). I think this could help you, especially as it’s easy at first and you will gain momentum as it gets harder.

Come back and tell us how you are getting on xxx

    My job list for today:

    Update finances
    Walk neighbours dog
Dust and hoover lounge, hallway and landing
    Cook chilli
    Clean kitchen
    Fill out electoral roll form
Clean toy boat found in loft

I’m sure there’s more to add but that’s a good start.

    Have a good day all.

Gracie, let me endorse what the others have said about choosing a small area and concentrating on that. My plan of campaign would be

    1. Get three containers, boxes, bags or bin liners.
    2. Label. PUT AWAY. GIVE AWAY. THROW AWAY.
    3. Choose one small area - a corner, a coffee table, a piled up sofa and.....
    4. Get the kitchen timer and set it to 15 minutes.
    Ready. Steady Go!
Pick things up one at a time and as fast as you can sling them into the containers.
Instant decisions here, you haven't time to weigh up the ifs and buts.
When the timer goes off STOP.
Now you should see some clear space so pick up a cloth dampened with spray polish or some cleaner (I use Mr Muscle glass cleaner for everything) and pass it swiftly over the surfaces.

Now the Put Away things can be ...er...put away, if youve anywhere to put them. The Give Aways can stay there until you have enough to take to the Charity Shop and the Throw Aways go straight into the bin.

There! enjoy your clean tidy spot.
When you are ready for it, choose another spot nearby, rinse and repeat.
I call this the Dot to Dot method. When you have done enough spots they will all join up and you have a clean and tidy room.

I feel exhausted now. Good Luck.

Have trouble remembering how to fly.
  • Love the idea of this thread, always putting things off until another day, and sometimes that day never comes around :rotfl:

Will endeavour to pop on here a few times a week to keep myself motivated! X
  • Well, thanks to all you supportive people on here I finally got motivated. I started small, and have continued. I've got so much done. I've cleared a couple of spaces in the house and have removed 4 big buckets of weeds from the garden. It's surprising how sharing your problem with supportive people helps. I even managed to cook myself a healthy meal from scratch with plenty of leftovers.

    So today I will,

De-clutter dining room. ( tabletop completely covered with crap)
    Sort dog cupboard out
    put clothes away
carry on with weeding. Another 4 buckets.

    Thank you all so much.
    Have a great day.

    Gracie xx
