Selling items you've won ...

Does anyone else find it a pain in the proverbial?

I won a high-ish value item a while back - a runner up prize - and have been using Facebook to try and sell it with no luck ... just lots of people messing me around.

I had one man who was on his way to buy it and had an accident in his car, so then he said he didn't have the cash for it anymore ... hmmm ... didn't really believe him.

Had people offering really silly amounts, people wanting me to deliver it 50 miles away, people asking if it's still available then just disappearing (why do that?!) ....

I used to use Gumtree or eBay but got sick of scammers.
Has anyone had any luck elsewhere?

I have found unless it is something very popular like a games console/iPad ect then items are very difficult to sell.

    I have a £350 VVA handbag I won that I can't sell for £100

My youngest son just tried to sell his car on Gumtree and was messed around terrible, you didn't mention phone calls at almost midnight

I rarely comp for anything me or mine don't want/need any more ;)

Same reason why I stopped putting my number on ads, I just use an email address now. People are weird. Or have no manners. (Or both.)

Mine's a technology win, so I thought it would go ... but nope ...
I wouldn't mind if the advert sat there for ages, it's just people whose sole aim is to mess you around. I don't know what they get from it ... :(

If it is a Tech item have you seen what price CEX will give you for it? you can go on their website and just type in what you have and will get a price. Obviously the price may not be as good as you would get from a private buyer but might be worth a look just so you have an idea of what you know you can actually get if you got fed up of trying to sell it privately

CEX are good for electronics and games.
Facebook marketplace, Facebook selling pages, Shpock, Gumtree, Ebay, Preloved are all good sites to sell and advertise on.

I don't tend to enter for anything I wouldn't want, need or couldn't gift it to anyone. If I do receive something that I can't use or gift, then I usually give it to charity or sell it to raise money.

    Congratulations on your win!
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

I find the key is not to expect to get too much for the item. If you are really lucky you may get 50% of retail price but, on average, it is around a quarter at best. And that's fine as they get a bargain and I get some cash.

I also donate some things to foodbanks and charity raffles - good karma but also good sense as you really don't want to stress over what is supposed to be an enjoyable pastime.
    Still cracking on....

I've won some baby stuff that no one offered on Facebook but managed to sell on eBay no problem and not too much of a bad price.

I usually only enter to win for me, my family and our pets so I tend not to sell prizes these days. The reasons why I hate selling anything online is because there scammers out there who can pay by paypal then reverse the payment at a later date, claim they have not received the item after you have posted it, claim the item was damaged (when it wasn't) just to get a refund, call you late at night, stalk you,.....and the list goes on....! Not only that, these days you are lucky to get 25% of the retail price so it is not worth the stress! If I do get the odd prizes that I don't want or need I usually give them to my neighbour who raises money for the Help for Heroes Charity from selling at car boot sales.
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
