Accepted job offer at Royal Mail

Just looking for some view points really.
So I've accepted a job at RM as a Annual Leave cover manager, visited a DO and got a real feel for the company which I like, however the job itself seems like a step down from my current role albeit better paid by around 3.5k. Even the DOM said it's a little step down!
So I've just seen a more senior position and applied for it again at RM, this would mean a 10k rise and a more responsibility which is what I'm looking for. Do you think this will look negatively on me and could they withdraw my current offer based on the fact I'm still actively seeking?
Should I wait till I get my foot in the door or try and go in at a more senior position?

First off - Congratulations :beer::beer:
If I'd been recruiting you I wouldn't have an objection to you getting in touch to ask if I thought you'd be a better fit for the other role.
Personally, I'd rather be sure I had the best suited candidate for the post - therefore if you're overqualified for this role I'd rather you had the more senior one than you leave for a different company and I have to recruit again anyway.
And - given that for an entry level role it's likely there were multiple suitable candidates - that you'd let me know in time for me to contact one of the better candidates before they found something else. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Thank You, I've applied online today. So do you think I should contact their recruitment on Monday and have a chat with them. I'm not sure if they would make me do all the online tests again and role play but I expect they would want to re interview me. I know they are actively trying to secure more females into senior positions.0

I'd give them a ring and speak to your manager if you can.
Just be careful how you come across, dont make it sound like you dont want your current role, you just want to see if you would be a better fit for the other role, and if not then you're more than happy to take on this job.
You dont want to end up with nothing.0 -
I think it would be polite for you to contact the DOM that interviewed you/gave you the tour and made the comment in your OP.
I would have asked their opinion before applying (subject to the deadline) - it would have been flattering for you to have asked their advice and maybe taken the sting out of the idea of you leaving.
If the job hasn't closed yet - and if you think the DOM won't see the applications until after your conversation - you could still pitch it that way ('After what you said when we met...').
But either way it's a curtesy and shows you've got a bit of awareness of the possible ruffled feathers.
Let us know how it goes? That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Sorry I've not been clear. I havent started at RM yet. RM have an recruitment team that I was tested and interviewed through. The visit to the DO was my suggestion so I could have a look round and get a feel for the place before taking up the post which I'm due to start in 4 weeks.0

Okay.
Well, you accepted the job and met with the Ops manager who will be managing you - or was the DO just the person that was available?
Either way, that's the person I'd recommend contacting to ask for an opinion.
If they recommend you apply for the job you can ask them if they know the manager/team and have a general conversation about the job - which tends to make a good impression as you come across as taking it seriously and if it's in the same office might even result in your name being 'known'.
If they seem off about you applying you can thank them for their advice and say that you need to think about what they've said and that you're glad it seems there's a longer term career path with the royal mail.
You never know - you might not even get sifted.
Hope you do though
