I have a white linen coat/dress that has been hanging in a cupboard for years.....and years. It's discoloured along one side, kind of yellowed.

I left it in bleach/detergent overnight and washed it this morning but it's still a bit yellowed on the seams and cuff/collar edges.

Any ideas what else I can try? Would Glo-White curtain cleaner work do you think? It's 100% linen.

There's an article here about using hydrogen peroxide. I've used this before on tablecloths. It seemed to have left some yellowing in the creases but by the time I took it off the line they had disappeared.

Be careful of using too much bleach as one of the tablecloths I initially used it on developed holes - might not have been just the bleach it may have been down to the rubbing action too :(

Thanks, yes I remembered that about bleach, it was pretty well diluted last night. I've hung it on the line in the sun today, I'll see what it looks like this afternoon, otherwise I'll try the peroxide.

Try steeping it in Napisan - I used to use it to clean my son's chef's whites and they were always sparkling.

Another advocate for Nappisan. It did wonders for my babies towelling nappies in the bad old days and has kept my whites sparkling ever since.

I've just brought it in from the line, it's a lot better than it was, but still a bit streaky. I'll try Napisan next, it's probably a little easier to get than peroxide.

    Thank you.

Hopefully a combination of napisan and sunshine will get it out. If you can try hanging it next to a sunny window for a few days after drying it. Most supermarkets sell it in the baby aisle, though Wilkinson have it much cheaper if you are near one.

Napisan did the trick! Thank you, it's all sparkly white again.

Now off to see what other whites I can freshen up!
