Hello so my partner just received a letter stating he owed money from a previous job due to admin error and his p45 won't be released till all monies are paid back. It states
'You should have had 23.66 hours deducted at 193.90, unfortunately it was paid and not deducted, resulting in you being overpaid 47.32 hours totalling £387.80.'
Not too sure where the 47.32 hours has come from when they've only mentioned 23.66 hours?
I'm aware he will have to pay this back however we can't pay 💰 It back in one payment due to increased summer holiday childcare. Any ideas?

Why not start off by establishing whether what they say is correct. Ask them for a breakdown of their calculations and where they get their figures from.
Then do your own calculations, is what they are saying correct, do your own reconciliation of hours worked / paid / deducted / whatever the basis is for them making the overpayment. Then if you both agree that there is an overpayment and the amount in question then get in touch and offer to pay back over a period of time, eg over 3 months. They cannot force you to pay it back in one go and I'm pretty sure if they just take it off your payslip in one go without your consent this is an unlawful deduction.0

What they're saying is instead of deducting 23.66 hours, they have not deducted anything from your working hours and then actually added 23.66 hours to your total, so therefore you have been paid that 23.66 hours twice (once for it not being deducted from your total and then again when it has been ADDED instead of being deducted).
Sorry, just edited as I notice you said your partner, not you.0
