I think your state of panic might be due to the fact that you only split up two weeks ago. Perhaps things will work out and you will get back together. The referral to the underwriters may be a blessing in disguise.

Unfortunately on this occasion that's not the case. I wouldn't take her back even if she asked, and she certainly won't be asking that. She's clear it's over, as am I.

Update - spoke to the bank who have asked many, many questions about my income and specific outgoings.

Two more working days until a decision is finalised. This is tense. Feel sick!

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much. If your application fails on affordability then ask if you can extend the term to reduce the payments. You can always choose to overpay (within the terms of your mortgage agreement) and reduce the term again when your fix runs out.

Feb 2008, 20year lifetime tracker with "Sproggit and Sylvester"... 0.14% + base for 2 years, then 0.99% + base for life of mortgage...base was 5.5% in 2008...but not for long. Credit to my mortgage broker
  • I was in your exact position 12 months ago. Went through Nationwide and I got referred, in the end they offered me the mortgage over 34 years instead of the 30 years I requested. This pushed me into pension age and I had to send off a few more documents and it was nerve wracking but I got my house! I also don't go out at all! I will be staying with Nationwide forever as I've heard that you can switch products when your fixed rate ends online with the click of a button without going through various checks, don't fancy all that again!

So, it’s been a while since I posted this thread. I appreciate literately nobody will care, however I thought I’d post with the resolution of what happened.

Following on from this post I was accepted on the mortgage (great news). I found out my ex ran off with another guy who was “her friend” when we were together. I then proceeded to have a pretty (very) crap time of life in general, feeling a bit lost and not knowing what I was doing or where I was going.. but, I’ve now met someone else, am much happier, I’m in the same house and I’m back on track. I have even been able to undertake some much required home improvements.

I’d like to thank everyone for their advice as I was utterly devastated and worried sick.

I’m posting this message from the house I was worried about losing. 😀

    Thanks!
