Non existent student loan

Logged into HMRC earlier to start my return, and was surprised to see the first question I get asked is
Our records show that you have an Income Contingent Student Loan for which repayment began before 6 April 2016 is this correct.
I left school at 16, and never attended uni. I did get a degree through the OU at the age of 59 but did not use any loans to achieve that, so where they get the idea 4 years later that I had a loan I have no idea.
I responded with a no to that question, but should I also follow that up with a call to ask where the hell they came up such inacurate info?

I was also asked that question. In my case I did have a student loan, and yes I commenced repayments before that date, but I finished paying it off about ten years ago so it is irrelevant to my 2016/17 return!
I answered "no" because I do not "have" (present tense) one.0 -
I've also just seen this question, while logging on to start a 2016-17 return.
I went to university (1997-2001) but never had a student loan, so am just answering "no".
It sounds like HMRC have received a load of duff information from the Students Loan Company.0 -
You're talking here about interactions between 2 rubbishy databases, each of which has a lot of inaccuracies and glitches within it. QED.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0
