David Hellier, if someone told me that I had to do something in three days I would tell them to stick it. Why does the op have to do it in three days? Who decided that?

This forum is for mutual support and advice, I would suggest that the op has as long as it takes to do an SOA!

I would also point out that some people have been on this forum and never done an SOA.

Successfully reclaimed charges from Barclaycard, A+L in my sights now.

    All debts interest free now!

  • Hiya,

firstly i'd like to say thanks to the people who have been really helpful to me. but i kind of feel a bit like some people have been a bit critical. I thought i would post and get some good advice but feel like i've stuck my head up and been shot at.
I'm not denying that we have debt, we do and that's why i'm here but then again i'm not sure why i was told that i had to post an SOA within 3 days? i've read the boards enough and have written this down for myself and my husband to read but don't feel comfortable sharing the exact details with people i've never met before.
I have sat down and prioritised the debts and looked at the interest rates and now we just need to concentrate on getting them paid off as quickly as we can and reducing the number of credit cards that we have between us which currently stands at 5. i'm fairly sure at least 2 of these can be paid of quickly then we can pour all of our money towards the others. if we hit them one at a time working from the highest interest first i know that they'll come down.

Surely the more things i can sell on ebay, amazon etc the more i will have to put towards each debt each month and the debts will fall even quicker but i thinka realistic target is 4 years to pay it all back. We have to allow ourselves a budget to enjoy ourselves (not expensive nights out tho) otherwise i don't reckon we'd still be together in four years to celebrate paying it all back!!!

    thanks
will start joining in some of the challenges and see how it goes.

Agreed. I actually read his post several times as I thought I may have misunderstood it.

Well done for taking the initiative and trying to get your finances in order.

One of the biggest things I did to try and save money was to try to control my non-essential spending (things that are not bills/rent/tax/insurance/etc....). The way I did this was I had my one current account where my salary went, and all the direct debits came out of. I then set up another current account, and each month I transfer £XX into and that is my "fun" money that I can spend for the month.

So I can basically see EXACTLY how much I have left and how much I can spend. If I have any money left over, I either keep it in there, or transfer into a savings account.

Anyway, good luck! Everyone on this site has been quite welcoming, although you do get the odd one who isn't so, but it's a great motivation being here so stick with it.

Hi. Don't worry about putting up a SOA if you don't want to, its just usefull for people to make suggestions as to how you can cut back. Basically cutting back on "wants" not "needs" is always a start, check out cashback sites (and pigsback for clicks) but remember its YOUR life so do what feels right for you.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

    Hi Gale.

I agree, the guy is obnoxious in evey post he makes.

I was under the impression we are here to support each other?
  • JUst to say that I've been on here for years & never posted an SOA & never will! Am happy to reveal a certain amount of financial information on an open forum but not everything! You dont know who is reading! It's not a prerequisite to getting support so if you dont want to post it dont! As for beig TOLD when to; stuff that for a laugh!! The important thing is that YOU deal with it! I think that Kaz was trying to encourage you to add it all up rather than telling you what to do as that in itself can be a shocker when all the sums are added (usually due to lovely ole interest!). People can sometimes sound a bit harsh but that is ften due to the sheer amount of "help" posts there are a day & sometimes us oldies forget what it feels like at the start so pease dont feel got at or stop posting...people are generally just trying to help you! :) Anyway, big hugs for you & well done sorting - its a bit of a roller coaster isnt it eh!! What challenges have you set?
