James sounds like a real gem AC.
Storage will help you feel as if you are not living in chaos once the crates and boxes unpacked.
When my daughter moved into her flat she left all her boxes in the spare room and did the flat one room at a time starting with her bedroom. We did the same and left all our boxes in our garage. Can you use your gas room to store stuff so you not falling over crates in your bedroom until the wardrobe and shelving is in? I really don't like you calling your 2nd bedroom a gas room - it sounds like a torture chamber :rotfl:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thanks enthusiastic .
The torture chamber is really full , as is everywhere
As you say , one room at a time etc. Once the blindsman has been and done his business then I can start to crack on .
The most annoying thing I have that's in the hallway , is one of those hi fi cabininets with glass doors . If I can move that somewhere , then it shouldn't seem so claustrophobic .
I have a rough plan this morning : say hi to blindsman / nip out for a quick coffee and toast / come back and start unpacking .
I have to buy an ironing board and a microwave . Haven't used a microwave since I was in twickenham in November last year.
I also have to get some cooking utensils etc for kitchen .
I'm typing this out , looking at all the traffic , a few dog walkers and a few workers etc . Therapeutic0 -
Blinds done . Awesome !
Now the landlady : she kept mentioning the fact that the place needs to be professionally cleaned . Her friend appeared and they were ganging up on me . I went on the defensive . The situation is the lettings agent is coming round very soon . I phoned up and threatened with the ombudsman if I didn't get my deposit back.
All the time and hassle with utility warehouse / plumbing her washing machine etc . Apparently the cleaning kept bill won't be much .
I may have went over the top, but I made sure her friend backed down and kept quiet .
We could have left on better terms . It's only a bit of dust here and there .0 -
Decluttering may be the way to go. Think if you really need all this stuff.
As for the cleaning, a cleaning company should not charge the earth for a flat if it really needs cleaning. Just how dirty did you leave it? No point in getting defensive over it. If you think she has a point then bite the bullet and just say ok and can they recommend someone. Not a deep clean just a freshen up. Hoovering, dusting, kitchen and bathroom. You need your deposit back. How much was it?
Microwave is an essential item in my opinion.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I cannot remember how much deposit . I left the paraphernalia in the flat . There were things I didn't do , like pull out bedside cabinets / in the living room under the radiator . There is absolutely nothing wrong in the kitchen . Her friend was looking for stuff .
Renting from a company is better than someone being too personal in their flat . The favours I did her, she should let it go .
I hate having to make a stand . I think it's wear and tear and she is splitting hairs . She has had worse than me imho .0 -
Don't you have your utensils from Twickenham?
And are you really buying coffee and toast out every day!! How much of your capital have you spent just on coffees and croissants/toast? You're behaving like someone with an excellent income rather than a person with no income and dwindling capital plus debts to repay. Thanks verbatim .
I don't go to these places as much now . I have to meet people so this is an outlet . When I get a job it'll probably stop totally ..
Now back to my landlady ..0 -

So , on the balance in dealing with essential people in my new area:
James the builder .. great / utility warehouse ..poor / edf.. very good / Wessex water.. very good / j c gas ...very good/ beales + delivery ..great . I tipped the blindsman . He came on his own . The company ( insignia ) put urgent . He was late . I wasn't worried . So insignia .. rilliant . Landlady .. devious Chancer !0 -
Landlady is a devious chancer???
Why ........because she wants the apartment left clean.
I think you are being both naive and a tad confrontational here.
Whether or not you did her a "favour" over the washing machine is irrelevant. It has nothing to do with how clean you have left the apartment. As for wear and tear, you live alone and have only been there six months......lol. There should be no wear and tear.
If it is not up to standard then you will need to cough up for a cleaning company. It's in your contract........
I too Am a bit at a loss why you need to purchase so much kitchenalia etc. Did it get lost in transit.
As for buying toast and coffee...... total waste of money. ..... no nutritional value whatsoever in toast. It's just carbs. If you are going out for breakfast then go for a full English to stoke you up for the day........They are cheap enough.
I regularly eat breakfast out if I'm out and about early. It saves a lot of hassle and it doesn't break the bank. It will keep me going till supper time.
Remember the old adage.......
"Breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and dine like a pauper". :rotfl:
Get some bacon and eggs down you, much healthier than filling up on snickers and bread rolls.0 -

You could be right LL . I think I was taken aback as to the two of them ganging up on me . Her friend was throwing fuel into the fire .
I think I am a bit naive when it comes to the cleaning side .
The way she was talking was if it was really serious. There 's clean and deep clean for cockroaches etc .
If I have to pay £50 or something , then fair dos . I refuse to pay hundereds . Does that sound reasonable ?
The food yesterday was emergency , as I physically couldn't cook anything as the kitchen was totally full of everything . Egg and bacon ..yes !:)0
