Paypal

I have no idea which board to put this.

I have been trying to contact Paypal on behalf of my dad who is now in a nursing home. I am now at the point where I want to bash my head on something sharp.

I went into his Paypal account early in January, found all recurring payments which he had set up and cancelled them. The bank account which he paid Paypal from was closed in December. I discovered today that a payment had been made at the end of February to a company whose recurring payments I cancelled on 11 January this year. I have phoned the company concerned and they are happy to refund the money and cancel any further recurring payments from their end.

However I want to close the Paypal account, but it's proving impossible. Please can someone give me some advice on how to go about it.

Carolyn

Be prepared to sit on the phone a long time to speak to someone- it does make you want to headbang speaking to them.

I`d suggest emailing them in the first instance as then you have the opportunity of putting all the information down. Would that help?

I'm struggling to find an email address. I keep going round in circles on the website.

The first I heard of this transaction was when an email popped into dad's email address saying that they have a policy of transferring unpaid amounts from Sterling into Euros after 4 days.

I'm hoping that the company he paid will send a refund like they said - it's not appeared yet, but I'll wait a few days. If they do, then all well and good. If not then I have tried to contact Paypal to tell them the situation - they should have a more user-friendly website. I don't think it would be worth their while to sue for just over £50, and he has no money at all, just amounts going in monthly to pay his nursing home fees.

Assuming that you can log into his account, does this help?

He paid Paypal through a bank account which I closed in December. I've cancelled his credit card, so no further debts should accrue. I've got Power of Attorney over his affairs. My mum has had 60 years of constant worries over finances because he held the purse strings. I was shocked at how poor at managing his money he was. When he dies his estate will be valued at £0.

    Thanks for all your help.
