There you go. :D
Thanks Rikki - what a star ! I'm sure I'll get the hang of it when I devote some time to it, but till then, I Stand in Awe !

Polenta is an Italian cereal, it's the name for the ingredient itself - coarsely ground yellow cornmeal and also for the most common use for it, when it is cooked with stock or water and flavored with onions, garlic, and cheese. Polenta may be eaten fresh out of the pot, as a perfect accompaniment to stews. You can also pour it into a greased pan and allow it to set. It is then sliced, sautéed, and topped with cheese or tomato sauce. Cheap and filling, (I pay 49p for 500 grams at my corner shop, enough to feed 6 hungry people), we had a craze for it in this house a few years back. But my daughter is wheat intolerant:rolleyes: and she gave me this recipe, which uses polenta instead of wheat, and I love its slightly gritty texture.

*brushes away crumbs*

*hides half a cake*

I've made one. The boys ate quite a bit. I did take a pic and sent it to a friend. She has gone out to the pub. I will have to make a 2nd tomorrow. Cooling cake is a smell not often whiffed here.

You're meant to put the pic on here and send the cake to your friend! You've got it all wrong, haven't you? :naughty:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

MY daughter has made a cake today.

She bakes often but today was her very first ttempt at a proper decorated birthday cake & I think its a fab first attempt considering she is just 13.

She made the whole thing from scratch - including the marzipan & stuff :o

I'll go take a pic and post back in a min :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Wonderful thread MBE. I hope you had a great birthday. Great cakes so far guys.

I'm now inspired to bake a cake this week. Often do refrigerator cake or flapjacks for pre-school committee meetings and neighbours. Might do yoghurt cake or banana bread for the pre-school teachers. And if I'm feeling really confident might even try a sponge cake  or maybe not. I'll let you know...
