Stupid throw away society

Hello all,

I went into Primark for the first time a couple of week ago while on holiday in England and bought a plain bog standard black cardi, it's been in the wash once and already a button has fallen off and the neckline is coming apart. Seriously so pied off. I will be fixing it this weekend as I am not just going to throw it away but I'm just so annoyed that this is what the world has become!

Does anyone know where I can get a decent black cardi which won't fall apart on me? I'm plus sized (24) so most places won't fit and all the charity shops over here are pants and full of smaller clothing.

Thanks

  • Hi LFC, I find Damart online very good - their clothing is very classic in style and I've had some for years.
  • I am a size 20/22 and I find JD Williams very good and reasonably priced

M&S do reasonable basic cardigans. If you live near an outlet store the cardigans are about £13 and go up to a 24. I've got a couple of black ones and they've been washed and worn a lot over the last year or so, and they still look fine.
  • I'm a size 24 and I've had some good buys on ebay, No idea where they came from originally though...

I was talking about tis to my daughter the other day. I am in the process of replacing some of my winter clothes (most of which I have had for years) and specifically wanted some warm trousers for round the house/nipping to the corner shop, but everything in town seemed really cheap, thin material. Not that we have many shops left where I live. I hope our M&S isn't one of the ones marked down for closure as there will nothing left at all (not that I particularly rate their clothes very highly either). The shops we do have all seem to have permanent sales but I would rather pay a bit more to get better quality so I have shopped online (another vote for Damart) even though I would rather support my local High Street.

It's years and years since I bought any knitwear; it's always too short in the sleeves cos I have long arms. I get wool and needles and make my own. Currently working on a navy blue cardi with pockets.

More expensive than the fast fashion from the likes of primark but everything we had has always washed really well
