Avogirly's thread to keep her going.....

I thought it was about time that I started a thread. I want to do this for many reasons, but mainly because I loose motivation all the time. I also have not told anyone how much debt I am in, which is a huge weight on my shoulders. My parents and boyfriend know I am in debt, but they think it is half the amount it really is. I cannot bring myself to tell them the truth, because I did so two years ago, so they expect it to have been reduced by a greater amount than it has.

My spending in that time has been for many reasons, but mostly when I'm feeling down I go shopping. But the high lasts for such a short time, and then I'm even more down because I have spent on my credit card.

As you can see I have been a member of MSE for two years now, and a great percentage of that time has been spent lurking at other's threads, but I haven't had the guts to start my own with my story and current situation.

I am 27 years old and live with my boyfriend and our two dogs. As you can see I am in about £22,000.00 of debt, which has been yo-yoing up and down for the last two years. We do not have a mortgage, however, I contribute each month to the running costs of our house and also buy the food.

I work for the family business and also do some part time work which I really enjoy, so I'm working to almost full capacity.

I have reduced my outgoings to the minumum with the help of MSE, am also on the cheapest insurance for my car etc....

Therefore to get me out of my low I am going to do the following: -
  • Post on my thread every day I am near my computer.
  • Post on the daily spend/what have you done threads.
  • Ebay everything not nailed down!
  • Do overtime for main job.
  • No unnecessary spending.
  • Restart my savings for christmas, birthdays, car insurance etc
  • Cut up the credit card.
  • Keep up my daily clicks.
  • Do a REALISTIC snowball! Not one where I am debt free in two months by paying off £10k/month!
When I look at how hard everyone is working to reduce their debts I am ashamed of myself, but I shall be ashamed no longer, especially as that debt is now only going to go down, not up!

Current debts: -

Lloyds TSB CC £5572.56
Lloyds loan £11675.61
Coop CC £4837.19

Total £22085.36

If you get this far, thanks for reading!

  • Well, this is my first update on my thread. All I have to report is that I have sorted out some stuff to ebay and put on amazon, took pictures of everything, which I am going to list later on today, unless someone knows of a 5/10p listing day soon?
The shopping is being delivered between 10-12, and will last for the week.

I've got rid of the credit card and am now off to do my daily clicks!

I'm even a little bit proud of myself this morning. Much better than I was feeling yesterday morning!

I'm a bit worried about Thursdy though as I am supposed to go out in London with two girlfriends for a birthday celebration...not sure what to do as I have no spare money at all. I can get there ok, as that can be paid for by business, but no spending money. Oh, what to do?????

When was the last time you hunted down the back of the sofa, in bags you haven't used for a while, in coats from last winter etc? You might find some spending money there. Other than that tell the truth and say that you love the idea of meeting up but that you are not going to be able to party as you are saving for a mortgage/holiday/new 3 piece suite or something

I've actually just got some of them out and got them ready for listing on ebay! I can't believe how much stuff I've gained over the years. It's actually quite theraputic clearing stuff out!

I should tell the truth, it's just hard letting others down.
