I have a tree in my garden which is laden with apples. They look a bit like a russet, with a dry, golden brown skin.
They are quite dry on the tongue when you try to eat them, though they are fairly juicy IYKWIM. They just aren't very nice for eating.
But they aren't a cooking apple, are sweetish but pretty bland. They are a decent size, fist size I suppose, but I don't really fancy standing peeling a load of them unless they will turn into something edible in the end. They all went to waste last year and I don't want the same to happen this year so any suggestions welcome.

Could you try making wine.

Have you tried stewing them? Chop up (but not the cores), chuck in pan with a splash of water and maybe a handful of sultanas, put lid on, and cook on a low heat. Check and stir every five minutes until they're as mushy as you want, then leave to cool a bit with the lid on. Turn out into bowl, bung in fridge, and eat when cold.
If they're not fit for that, they're fit for nowt (unless you particularly like russets ... )We're all doomed0 -
We don't drink so wine is out.
I could try stewing them without the sultana (s). Gosh, tried about seven times to write that word in plural but it kept autochanging to sultans!
I suppose if I added enough spices they may make a passable chutney. Just got rid of a big basket of damsons. Someone came and picked loads to make damson jam (shudder at truly horrible childhood memories of awful damson jam).Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

I cook my apples in a little water and a good dollop of honey and they taste really nice, much nicer than with sugar, also I too throw a few sultana's in and a spoonful of cinnamon (but then I adore cinnamon in so many things).0

If you don't want to eat them once stewed, blitz them into into a pur!e and use in cakes?
I happen to love them stewed, I'd be filling my freezer for year-round use.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
